Introduction

Some 2005-2010 model year Tacoma vehicles may exhibit a tick/click noise from the blower motor.
The procedure in this bulletin has been developed to improve this condition.

Production Change Information

Vehicle Applicability:
All 2005-2010 model year Tacoma vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective
VINs shown below, install the Blower Motor Tick Click sound insulation kit and, if the blower motor
was not updated per SB T-SB-0380-09, “Blower Motor Squeal Noise at Low Ambient Temperatures”
then install an updated blower motor.
For 2010 model year Tacoma vehicles produced AFTER the Production Change Effective VINs
shown below, install the Blower Motor Tick Click sound insulation kit.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY
• This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for
36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.

• Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this


bulletin.

Repair Procedure

1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (–) battery terminal.


2. Remove the glove compartment door assembly.

hinges and remove the glove compartment door assembly.
D. Remove the glove compartment door stopper.

connector and the 4-pin blower resistor connector.

4. Remove the 3 bolts and remove the blower motor. Figure 4..

7. Pull the IP Harness/ECM bracket to the right of Figure 8..

tie. This will allow access to the side of the HVAC
assembly when installing the long foam piece.

10. Clean the areas of the HVAC assembly that will have the sound insulation installed with mild
soap and water. Ensure the surface is completely dry and free of residue before proceeding.

NOTE
There are two images shown below of each foam installation location. The images on the left
show the areas that will need to be cleaned. The images on the right show the same images
with the foam installed.

11. Install the round foam piece to the bottom of the Figure 12..
HVAC Blower housing. Use the profile of the foam
to correctly install around the blower housing.
A. Begin installation of the foam in the area
marked.
B. Remove an inch of backing to initially install
the foam.
C. Slowly peel the backing off while pressing the
foam around the profile of the HVAC assembly.

NOTE
The large side of the foam should face the
bulkhead of the vehicle.

12. Install the long piece of foam onto the HVAC Blower housing. Use the profile of the foam to
correctly install the foam on the housing.

A. Remove the backing in the area shown Figure 13.

A. Measure the blower motor branch length. If the Figure 16.

the branch length to 150 mm.

Blower motor branch length is the distance
from the edge of the L-Clip to the end of the
blower motor connector. 1

B. Remove the tape at the three locations. Figure 17.

C. Adjust the blower motor branch length to 150 mm.


D. Reapply tape at the three locations using the new L clip.
E. Confirm the blower motor branch length is 150 mm.

14. Install the blower motor (install updated motor Figure 18..
if applicable) with the three longer screws and
acoustic cover.

NOTE
• If VIN is BEFORE production change,
confirm whether updated blower motor
was installed per SB T-SB-0380-09,
“Blower Motor Squeal Noise at Low
Ambient Temperatures”. (Check vehicle
repair history)

• Before installing the blower motor, confirm


the round foam does not overlap onto
the mating surface for the blower/HVAC
assembly.

15. Remove the zip tie holding the IP harness and Figure 20..
ECM bracket.

20. Connect the blower motor connector and blower resistor connector.
21. Secure the harness with the two clips. Figure 26..

22. Install the glove compartment door assembly. Figure 27..

A. Pull the bottom of the stopper out until the clip


hole is visible.
B. Insert the tip of a small flat-blade screwdriver 2
into the clip hole to prevent the bottom of the
stopper from retracting.

HINT
Tape the screwdriver tip before use. 1

C. Attach the stopper to the instrument panel at

E. Remove the screwdriver from the stopper. Figure 29..

23. Connect the negative (–) battery terminal.


24. Confirm the blower motor operates correctly and the tick/click noise is no longer present.
