Arguments
1. Annulment is expensive, thats why
divorce is a better option for common
Filipinos

2. We are the only country left in the

entire world who does not have
absolute divorce

3. current laws on marriage such as

legal separation, annulment of
marriage and nullity are flawed.

4. divorce used to exist in the

Philippines

Rebuttals
1. the high cost is intended to
discourage the people from trifling
marriage. It is only resorted to in the
most serious cases as to protect the
sancitity of marriage in our country and
avoid baseless reasons for breaking the
marriage bond
2. So what? Do we need to conform
with their laws for our country to be
better? Would it result to a higher
economic rate? Employment rate?
And why compare ourselves with the
marriage laws of other countries, these
laws should be made not to conform
with them but to conform with
Philippine standards, culture and needs.
3. there are no unflawed laws.
Everything has a loophole in some way.
Our current marital laws are of no
difference. The flaw cited is that legal
separation does not confer legal rights
to those who have acquired this
remedy. Which is precisely the point of
the legislature. The grounds under legal
separation are not sufficient as to
justify the complete dissolution of
marriage.
4. konti lang nagavail atsaka our
country remains to be predominantly
catholic. Benevolent neutrality was only
applied to Muslims.
5. we have available remedies for
women who are under abusive
relationship. There are laws for the
empowerment of women like the AntiViolence Against Women and their
Children Act, penal laws providing
penalties and sanctions for acts of
disloyalty under concubinage and
bigamy.
