Disturbance in emotion such as elevated, irritable or depression.

1. Manic
2. Euthymic

4. Types of bipolar disorder

1. Bipolar 1 disorder
- At least one episode of manic with or without history of depressive episode
2. Bipolar 2 disorder
- Occurrence one or more depressive episode accompanied by at least 1
hypomanic episodes
3. Rapid cycling
- Patient with bipolar with 4 or more manic / depressive in one year
4. Mixed features
- Patient with mania and depression occur simultaneously or rapid changes
5. Cyclothymic
- Milder form of bipolar 1 which occur frequently for 2 years

Mania
At least 7 days
Social and occupational impairment

Hypomania
At least 4 days
No social and occupational impair

May necessitate hospitalization

Does not require hospitalization

May have psychotic features

No psychotic features

- Abnormal and persistently elevated(11/10), expansive() or irritable
mood
&
- Increased energy or goal directed activity
- Lasting 1 week (most of the day) or any duration if hospitalization is
necessary
B
- 3 symptoms if increased energy / activity or
- 4 symptoms if only irritable mood/ outburst of anger
Low self-esteem/grandiosity >> do you feel you are better than others?
Decreased need of sleep (rested after 3 hours)
More talkative / pressure to keep talking >> complained by anyone?
Flight of ideas / racing of thoughts >> how is your thinking pattern?
Increased in goal directed activity/ psychomotor agitation >> impulsive travel,
hypersexuality, promiscuity
