As we have already discussed, in Mexican and sometimes Guatemalan culture, the Day of the Dead (Nov. 1 & 2) are
often celebrated to remember loved ones and those who have passed before us. Common activities connected to this
celebration are:
cleaning up and decorating gravesites
creating altars in the home to commemorate that persons spirit and/or
creating altars in the home to call back that persons spirit
You are going to create a shoebox altar to commemorate the life of a person that can be known to you or does not
have to. You may pick a famous personality, a fictitious character, or a pet to remember. Your subject should NOT be a
controversial person/character, you may NOT celebrate violent deaths or lives. See the rubric below:
