Generating Electricity Form

Coal
Coal is a natural unrenewable
resource found underground
when mining. It is a fossil fuel that is the remains of animals,
plants and other living creatures that lived long time ago in
swamps and peat bogs.

The giant machines

remove the topsoil
and subsoil.

If they are doing surface

mining, the explosives will
need to remove the thin layer
of overburden over the coal

But if they are doing

underground mining,
they keep digging
though the
overburden until the
coal is found. Then,
the coal is mined.

Mining is the process of gathering
minerals by digging deep.

It also causes air pollution. To produce
energy, coal has to be burned. But when
they do that, it causes air pollution. The
chemicals that are released include CO2,
mercury compounds, sulfur dioxide and
nitrogen oxides.

What might happen if the world uses coal as a primary resource for electricity?
Many coals are made of carbon but it also features other elements such as hydrogen, oxygen, sulfur and nitrogen. If is a different type of coal, it makes
different amounts of carbon. Lignite contains only around 60 to 75%, while anthracite contains more than 92%. Very many coals are burned to create
electricity and heat. The use of coal is increasing every year in 2006 the world consumed over 6,000,000,000,000 kilograms of coal. If we always use
coal to make electricity, then we will have to do mining. But after mining and burning the coal, there will be so many bad effects. For example, if we burn
the coal, then it will include acid rains, contaminated water, poisonous emissions, high level of carbon dioxide, and increased risks of lung cancer for coal
plant workers.
If the whole world uses coal for electricity, then there will be many bad cases. There are two main ingredients of coal and they are particulate and sulfur
dioxide. There are very many bad cases by using coal, like having respiratory disease every year, and also causing 500,000 cases of premature death.
China and India is having new pollutions levels because of coal. Actually they are at a same level that London had during the famous fog that killed 4000
people in 1952. The black lung disease is among workers who are stuck in the industry, not to mention the horror of occasional cave in where people
are buried alive.

How does coal generate electricity?

Coal generates electricity when it was burned, the
chemical energy the burned coal was creating will heats
up the water in a boiler to produce steam. With a lot of

Coal generates 44% of our electricity, but is also the single biggest air polluter in U.S.Burning coal causes air pollution, smog, soot, acid rain, global
warming,
toxic air emissions.Wastes generated because of coal, ash, sludge, toxic chemical, and waste heat creates more environmental problems.
