Thirtieth Sunday in
Ordinary Time
Father, for the strength you have given me,
and for the health you have blessed me with,
Thank you.
For the women who are going through breast
cancer, their families and for all who suffer with
cancer and life threatening illnesses,
We ask you to strengthen and to heal as you see
fit.
Lord we know you want us to be in good health.
Lord use us to do the work you have for us to do.
For we know all our time is short on this earth.
Lord be with everyone who is sick
and encourage them as only you can.
We know how faithful you are.
You have shown yourself to be everything
you say you are in your Holy Word.
We praise you for you made this body
and you can heal this body.
In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.

From the Pastors Desk,
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Both the first reading and the Gospel have references to
the blind or the lame. Certainly these would be part of the
category of persons we label as special needs. In the first
reading, the blind and the lame are presented as specially
included in the gathering of the people he will bring back. In
the Gospel, Jesus heals the blind Bartimaeus who becomes an
example to others of a man of faith.
We are encouraged in our faith and morals to reach out
and care for persons with special needs. In the coming
weeks, our Mission Trip team will be asking for the final
push for their efforts to prepare to go and serve the special
needs residents of Mustard Seed Communities in Jamaica.
They are hosting a pasta and meatball dinner fundraiser. As
you know, this trip will be different than prior trips that our
parish has hosted. This group will be going to build an additional cottage for the residents. Construction men are going
to help lead the building. SRU students and others with special needs training are going to help with teaching and learning skills for those residents.
Also, recently, our local Knights of Columbus chapter
helped with the Special Olympics at SRU. They provided
the refreshments, and while they made a profit, donated all
their profit and more to the Special Olympics fund. One of
the Knights remarked to me that it was a joy to be part of the
Special Olympics. These people know how to have fun
playing the games that they play. Its not merely about
competition and winning, but about having fun playing and
participating. Sadly, thats something that is often missed
by non-special needs Olympians and athletes at all levels. In
fact, theres a spirit about persons with disabilities and special needs that we all need to experience.
There is the moral imperative to care for others in need,
but for anyone whos ever set out to that moral challenge,
more than likely, theyve learned that they got more out of it
than they put into it. Whenever we encounter someone with
a disability or special need, we can look at that person with
pity and feel the moral obligation to help. But we can also
see the opportunity that is presented to us to learn something.
We gain something greater by expressing love in our actions.
We are made in that image and likeness of God so that when
we reach out like Jesus did, we gain more than we ever put
into it. Lets look for opportunities this week and before the
end of the year, not only to do what were called to do, but to
experience and appreciate why were called to do it.
In Christs love,
Father Kevin

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church - Faith in God

the Father Almighty can be put to the test by the experience
of evil and suffering. God can sometimes seem to be absent
and incapable of stopping evil. But in the most mysterious
way God the Father has revealed his almighty power in the
voluntary humiliation and Resurrection of his Son, by which
he conquered evil. Christ crucified is thus the power of God
and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser
than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. It
is in Christs Resurrection and exaltation that the Father has
shown forth the immeasurable greatness of his power in us
who believe. (CCC, 272)
RAKE AND RUN Sunday, November 8, will be the annual Rake and Run. College students, high school and Confirmation students will be available to rake the leaves of anyone who needs help. If you would like to sign-up to have
