Please respond to the following prompts:

1 Summarize the key points you learned from this Professional
Development experience.
I attended two sessions at the Spring 2015 Workshop offered by WVSU. The
first session, The Leader in Me focused on using Stephen Coveys The 7
Habits of Highly Effective People. The second session, The Secondary
Classroom focused on using primary source documents, iMovies, and Poplet
in the classroom.
The Leader in Me workshop session taught me how The 7 Habits (Be
Proactive, Begin with the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win-Win,
Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood, Synergize, Sharpen the
Saw) can be highly beneficial to students. The 7 Habits promote real-life
skills that students can use throughout their lives. The workshop focused
more on implementing the 7 Habits into an elementary classroom, but some
of the same ideals could be translated into a secondary classroom.
The Secondary Classroom workshop session focused on using various
learning tools in the classroom. iMovies and Poplet could be used for
students to complete an assignment. Primary source documents are also
important because they allow students to have a first-hand glance into time
past.
2 Discuss how these key points connect to your content area.
Both of these workshop sessions can apply to a Social Studies classroom.
The 7 Habits can provide a guideline for how students should act and treat
others while in the classroom. The tools discussed in The Secondary
Classroom workshop session can be useful when assigning projects in the
future. The use of iMovies and Poplet allow students to use technology,
making the content relatable to them.

3 Share how you might use this new information in your future
classroom.
I would use all of this new information when creating lessons and
promoting classroom management. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective
People promotes a positive attitude and teamwork, which can be highly
beneficial to any classroom. I would definitely use some of the habits in
the future when dealing the management of the classroom. I would also
use iMovies and Poplet when creating my future lesson plans. Students
can take a particular topic, use the aforementioned technology and create
videos or projects that are of relevance.

Note: Make sure you upload this document to your professional portfolio
along with your scanned PD letter and/or PD certificate.
