Edmund Randolph, the Virginia Governor has originally owned this plan, but was later written
by James Madison. Virginia and other large states will benefit from this plan because they will
receive more representatives than smaller states. Their idea was to create two branches so that
the rights of suffrage.. ought to be proportioned to the number of free inhabitants (Batten).
That makes the system much more difficult since the government controls their power within a
small group, but these states wanted a share of power as well. The specific powers Congress will
have is the ability to represent the states and not individuals, therefore having to . The powers
executive will have the ability to create a council of revision by examining every act or law
before it will be passed. The relationship looks to be unfair since large states have an advantage
of power because they are to have more representatives, which makes smaller states having
limited power with this plan.
The New Jersey Plan was created by Mr. Paterson so that all states are allowed to have one vote
in a single branch of Congress. All small states will benefit to this plan because it levels out to
the first plan that was proposed by Mr. Randolph, who supported large states in his plan. Small
states felt that it was unfair that the larger states were having support, and so they protested from
being moved with their share of power within the branch. Congress will play the role of
representing every state in order to maintain the power of the government. The executive is to
play a role of being a leader for both majority and minority of the people. The relationship looks
to be unequal since small states are having an advantage with this plan to counteract the Virginia
Plan.
The Connecticut/Great Compromise was proposed by a man named Roger Sherman, which
resolved the issue of power between both large and small states. He proposed that there would be
two houses, with one representation for all the states within the US (based on the amount of
people in a state). This begins with the separation of powers of the Legislative, Executive and
Judicial branch, therefore balancing out government power. Congress has the ability to create
bills and amendments to increase revenue and equality for the states, therefore the House of
Representatives is made. The relationship will be in peace since both large and small states will
benefit from this plan, since the balance of states became a problem in the beginning.
