The Giving Tree

Every day the boy would come to the
tree to eat her apples, swing from her
branches, or slide down her trunk, and
the tree was happy. But as the boy grew
older he began to want more from the
tree, and the tree gave and gave until
she could no longer give anymore.

basic information to make sure students are grasping the basic concept of the story.

(A)use ideas (e.g., illustrations, titles, topic sentences, key words, and foreshadowing) to make and

(C)establish purpose for reading selected texts and monitor comprehension, making corrections and

We will have a bare classroom tree lacking leaves and apples. The
students will each receive a leaf, and on each leaf they will
summarize the story.
