Tiger P.R.I.D.E (physical education, recreation, inclusion, development and enjoyment)

is an internship created by the Health Exercise and Sport Pedagogy Department in order to
develop the skills of undergraduate students in engaginginimprovingtheirteachingpracticesto
better prepare themselves to become professional educators. As part of the Evaluation Team
(ET) my job helps in aiding my Delivery Team (DT) improve their teaching skills through
producing reflective and analytical evaluations regarding their current lessons. This week Tiger
P.R.I.D.E focused on
Skill Themes (unit 4) . My DT for this unit is Lauren Nakaso who willbe
an instructor for Tiger Pride forthenextfewweeks.ThisweekLaureninstructedtwenty4thand
5th graders in Cleveland Elementary on October 20th and October 22nd. During this time
students learned a variety of skills this week that involved the sport of Soccer which included
passing, head butting the ball, dribbling, usage of various foot work to hit the ball, and
teamwork/communication. In order to learntheseskillseffectivelystudentswereplacedinmany
different stations throughout the activity to learn movement and accuracy in Soccer. Some of
these stations included passing, juggling, heading , and dribbling. In order to evaluate this unit
effectively this paper will focus on just two systematic observations that will assist my DT in
improvingtheirskillsasaninstructorinthe futurewhichwillinclude:
SystemObservationsTime
Analysis(44MinuteLesson)andSystemforObservingFitnessInstructionTime(SOFIT).

SystemObservationsTimeAnalysis(44MinuteLesson)
In using the time analysis to observe the class, I noticed that there was less time in
activities than compared to last lesson. This could be due to the fact that there were a lot of
activities that needed to be understood and also students may have came inlateintoTigerPride
that day. I thought that it was very great toseehowinvolvedthestudentswerewhenintroduced
to the various stations in playing Soccer. Studentseffectivelyusedallofthecuesandweregreat
when it came to teamwork and communication with each other. They also followed directions
and did very well in participation in the Overall activity.I did not find anything explicitly that I
think should be changed in a major way since it all worked out so well. However I do feel that
thereshouldbeacutintimeforinstruction.OtherthanthatLaurendidagreatjobtoday.

SystemforObservingFitnessInstructionTime(SOFIT)
In using the SOFIT to analyze MVPA during the lesson, I noticed that Lauren did 19
minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise during her lesson. It is less than usual but it could be
again due to the fact that the class was late in coming in to Tiger Pride which shortened our
instruction/activity time. However, Lauren did great job when it came to teacher to student

demonstrations. Students were active not only in activities but also during instruction. She did
very great in providing Wholepart whole (step by step) of the movements as well as a very
clearinstructionofwhattodo.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Lauren did very well given the circumstances and shortened time in
instruction. She also did well verbally in getting a clear message to her students in completing
theactivitycorrectlyandinatimelymatter..
