Abstract
The abstract is a one-paragraph summary of the entire paper, not an introduction. The abstract
will not be indented. Many students prefer to write the abstract last. Writing it first may cause
students to feel constrained. After researching, writing and editing your paper, it should be fairly
easy to write a one-paragraph summary of it. A good rule of thumb is one sentence in the abstract
for every paragraph in the paper. Do not reuse sentences from the paper itself to write the
abstract.
The body of your paper starts here. Body paragraphs are indented one-half inch. This first
paragraph will be your introduction. Be sure to include a thesis statement in your intro ideally
as the last sentence of this first paragraph.
