Abu Bakr (r.a.) - Part 2 - by Dr. Sh.

Yasir Qadhi
Last lesson we began to discuss the life of Abu Bakr al- Siddiq and his life and family,

Today we want to discuss about he life before Islam and his conversation to Islam, lil
bit the Stories that we have - we have lil bit of Information from his Makkan Ara - the
Madani Eare is 10 years and the Madani eare are is 35 years, you will see that we have
very lil Information just tibbits, and we go on from Sahabi to Sahabi from the Bulk of
the Sahaba we only have their name and from many of them no names are recorded,
more than 100.000 people saw the Prophet (saw) and most of them the names are
not recorded, correct, who is going to record them, we have around 5000 names,
probably we have stories to make a biography, i will end up doing 30 or 40 of them,
What we know about Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq r.a. he was always curious and open minded,
he newer worshipped idols, he was looking for the truth even as a young man, and AsSuyyuti reports in his tareekh (Biography) a story that Abu Bakr himself narrates:
"Once in the Days of Jahiliya i was sitting in front of the Kaaba and Zayd ibn 'Amr ibn
Nufayl was also there, who is Zayd ibn 'Amr ibn Nufayl, ? the most famoust of the
Hunafa - the Hunafa, the most famous of them is Zayd ibn 'Amr ibn Nufayl and our
Prophet (saw) met Amr Ibn Nufayl and he asked him "Why do my People have a
Problem with you" what is going on and he answered "I dont worshipped any of these
false Gods, I only whorshipped Allah, i turn to the God of Ibrahim" he was angry at
Audolatry, he traveled to Syria and Travelet to Yemen and rejects Judaism as a false
Religion and said: "Non of you is upon the Religion of Ibrahim (a.s.) any more, there is
no that Religion left "Hanifiya" who is the most famous and btw. he is the 1st cousin of
Umar ibn Al-Khattab, there is a huge Age Gap, 40 or 50 years, a different generation,
both from the Banu Adi, so Abu Bakr is sitting there and Zayd ibn 'Amr ibn Nufayl and as he is sitting Umaiya ibn Ab s-Salt (the most famous poet from the Thaqif
Tribe, the Taaif tribe, Prophet saw invitet him to Islam and he said to the Prophet "Let
me think about that" and at the rest of his life he is thinkin about the conversation then
he died, he didnt reject and also not accept) passes by, and our Prophet (saw) said:
"As for Umaiya ibn Ab s-Salt he, was just so close to accepting Islam" but some say
that he wanted embrace Islam but he felt Jahyli problems Thaqif vs. Quraysh - that
"Why should the Prophet be from the Quraysh and im from the Thaqif, and a another
reason is given that he lost his closest friends at Badr and he felt like betraying their
memory because the leaders of the Quraysh where their friends in the Days of Jahiiliya,
but he was also an Hanif - he didnt not worshipped the false Gods (Idolatry) so Ibn
Ab s-Salt is coming from Taaif doing Tawaf and Abu Bakr is looking at them as a
young man, Abu Bakr is listening to their conversation Ibn Abi Salt is saying to him:
"How are you doing, have you found the Sabeel tarik (in other words did you found the
truth yet ) and Zayd ibn 'Amr ibn Nufayl recited some poetry back at him, saying that
every religion is uncorrect other than the Religion of the Hanyfiyah, which is the
Religion of Ibrahim (a.s.) than Zayd ibn 'Amr ibn Nufayl said to Umaiya ibn Ab sSalt: We are waiting for, he either come from my tribe or yours" so Zayd is telling Ibn
Abi Salt (because they both traveled in the land, if you remember the story i have giving
it in the beginning of the Seerah, (when the Prophet (saw) was a very young man)
maybe even he was born, (we dont know exactly when) a group of People traveled in
the world, seeking the true religion, they went to Syria and Yemen, they know Zayd is
one of them, they come back and each of them going a separate way and Zayd says:
"We know that there is a Prophet coming, he will be either from my tribe or your tribe"
so Abu Bakr is narrating the Story, he said: "I have never heard anyone called a

Prophet, what is a Prophet (Nabi)?, - an this is an another theological point, that the
concept of Prophet hood was Not-None to the Arabs, that was not something that they
were familiar with, and that is was the Quran keeps on mentioning: "MA UNZIRA
ABUHUM MIN QABL" they didnt get a Prophet before, no Nabi came to them, and so
many Hadith are narrating this that the Quraysh are asking: "What is a Nabi" - Wama
Nabi, So Abu Bakr said: "I donknow what is a Nabi" - the most knowledgeable person
in Makkah is Waraqa Ibn Naufal ( he had prestige amongst the People), I went to
Waraqa Ibn Naufal and asked him what is that thing called a Nabi and Waraqa said:
"Yes indeed, my Nephew, we (the 3 of us) are the people of knowledge (meaning: we
are from a different religion) but we are all waiting for a Prophet to come, who is the
best of the Arabs, and your people (he is also a Qurayshi), our People are the best of
the Arabs, he will come amongst us" - he not say from the Thafiq, becasue the predition
was from Banu Ismail and the most prestiges from them is the Banu Ismail, it must be
us,
Warqa answers: "A Nabi is the one who tells others what he is told to say" the definiont
of a Nabi in other words, Allah is telling him, and "Layazlimu Walayuzlamu
Walayuzalim" "He doesnt do injustice and injustice is not done to him and he
(basically) does not support injustice,
So Abu Bakr said: "When the Prophet (saw) was sent, I immediately believed in him
and trusted in him" meaning these types of conversations had prepared him for the
coming of the Nabi thats just tidbit and this show as that the fact the he is sitting
behind Zayd Ibn Amr, he was a paraya, he was a tabu person to go because you are
not supposed to sitting with at deviant, the fact that he is sitting there and listening and
he is engaging the conversation and he also walked to a another source of knowledge,
that all indicates what? That he is open to searching for the truth, he is not satisfied with
the "Jahiliy" manners
and another incident aswell that we know for the comming of the Prophet (saw) and this
Message that:
One time many years later, when the Prophet (saw) began preaching in the Madani
phase, the Prophet (saw) asked the Sahaba who amongst you remembers the
statement of Qus bin Saaidah ( d. 600 CE) Al-Ayyaadee () , known as
( Wisest of the Arabs) at Uqadh - what is the Uqadh ? Uqadh is the post Hajj Soukh at
Mina, that was a land outside after the Hajj season, where for a few weeks all of the Hujajj will
gather and sell and have completions and would have poetry contests, thats the Soukh Al
Uqadh - that was a annual event, the highlight of All of the Arabian Penninsula, because thats
the only time that everybody is comes affear, bargening, selling, merchandise and our Prophet
(saw) utilizes Uqadh for his Dawah many many years, but before his Dawa he go like
everybody else, and at one of these times, before theh Dawa began (before the Age of 40) our
Prophet Mohammad (saw) mete Prophet (saw) asked the Sahaba who amongst you
remembers the statement of Qus bin Saaidah he is an another of the famous Pre-Islamic
Arabs who was from the Tribe of Banu Iyaad and he came from Tyhama, and he only came
once (in the life of the Prophet saw) for Hajj and Qus bin Saaida it is said that he was one of
the Elequent Arabs of his time, and he was none for an Nathr (i know the Arabs here are going
to kimchee when Im saying this, but the closest thing that is like Nathr is "RAP" - what do I
mean by this, Nathr is not poetry, it is using words ina rhythmic manner, which is very like rap,
not metered lines, not couplets styles, a different style, Qus bin Saaidah was none as the
master of this discipline an-Nathr and he was also an Hanif and gave some phrases in the
Soukh of Uqadh that the Prophet (saw) was impressed by, he liked what he heard from Qus
bin Saaidah (and when his tribe Banu Iyaad came to embraced Islam, the Prophet Mohammad
(saw) said to them (he wanted information about him): "Where is Qus bin Saaidah? And they
say: "He passed away so and so many years ago" He asked the Sahaba, who amongst us

remember what Qus bin Saaidah said at that Day, so immediately Abu Bakr (r.a.) said: "Ana,
Ya Rasullallah" so out of all of the Sahaba Abu Bakr was the one who memorized it so he
immediately began to recite the Nathr:

:

.
O people listen and understand! He who lived died, he who died lost his opportunity, and
everything that death that is approaching will surely come.

The night is dark, the day bright, the sky full of constellations, the stars twinkle, the seas swell.

* !
.

!
Indeed in the sky is news and on the earth a lesson. Do people think they will go and never
come back, are they pleased with their graves that they have decided to stay? Or they have
been left there (forced to) stay?

..
:
.

O People! Where are your fathers? Where are the tyrant Pharoahs of the past? Were they not
richer and lived longer than you? Time ground them in her embrace, as her eternity ground
them to dust .
and he (Qus bin Saaidah ) also was the first who said the word: ( ) amma bad
You see foryourself, powerful phrases that are profound in meaning, but they are not poetry,
and he goes on and on until Abu Bakr finishing the entire Nathr , what is that show about Abu
Bakr As-Siddiq ?
Great Memory and Amazing Memory after listening to that once he regurgitated and it also
shows that he is eager, he is paying attention he also criticizes idolatry and he mentions the
Religon of Ibrahim (a.s.) the real religion, but they are so many other examples that are more
trivial (but we dont have that much, here and there some small things) so we dont know too
much other than the fact from this story, Abu Bakr is paying attention to theological discussion
at his time, so is waiting for the truth and that is why when the truth came, in the form of the
Prophet Mohammad (saw) Abu Bakr (r.a.) inhasitat one bit, unfortunately we dont have the
detail of the conversation between the Prophet (saw) and Abu Bakr (r.a.), there where only this
to and they didnt told us the detail of this conversation between the Prophet (saw) and Abu
Bakr, because there are only 2 People there neither both of them told us the details of the
conversation, however what we do no is that Abu Bakr As- Siddiq did not hasitate one bid, i
quoted the Hadith last week that the Prophet Mohammad (saw) one time when this Issue
happened between Umar (r.a.) and Uthman (r.a.) our Prophet (saw) said that: "Everyone of
you, when I was sent to you and I told you that Allah has sent me, everyone of you hesitated,
before accepting Islam, he did not hesitated and he embraced" so we now then from this
Hadith, that the Prophet (saw) hes called to Abu Bakr was immediately accepted without any
hesitation and it is mentioned, Aysha (r.a.) later narrates (maybe Abu Bakr told her or her
mother told her, we dont know, Abu Bakrs mom was not alive when Abu Bakr converted"
Aysha narrated that: "When Abu Bakr converted, the happiest person in whole Makkah was
the Prophet (saw) that his best friend has converted" - and that is no thought that Allah (swt)
chose the perfect companion and the perfect helper for the Prophet (saw) so many things in
similarity, their natures, their characteristics, even their birthdates, we dont no exactly when
Abu Bakr was born but a year or a 1 year and a half younger then the Prophet (saw) so they
grow up together when the Dawah begans and what a helper he was, just look at he did
immediate after conversion, look at the list of the early converts one after the other, it is a list

Abu Bakr - Lifes of Sahaba 2of2(by DrYasirQadhi)

3/11

of who is whos of Islam, the most famous names of early and late Islam, they converted at the
Hands of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (r.a.) begging with Zubair Ibn Awan and Uthman Ibn Affan and
Talha Ibn La, Saad Bin Abi Waqas and Abdur Rahman Ibn Auf, all of this are from the Ashara
Mubashar so 5 at least, Allah (swt) guides them throw Abu Bakr (r.a.) - of the 10 best people,
and of course other besides this of course Bilal and Uthman Ibn Madhun and Al-Arqam (in
whos house the Prophet (saw) has the meeting with the Sahaba) even he converted at the
Hands of Abu Bakr, and of course his entire immediate family converted to Islam, his wife
Umme Ruman and his sons and daughters form the previous marriage, their names are:
Abdullah and Usman, and his son and daughter from Umme Ruman: Aysha and Abdur Rahman,
Aysha was born into Islam (she said: "I never remember that my parents accept upon Islam" so
she never saw the Day of Jahiliya, Asma and Abdullah did that, but not Aysha, she was born
into Islam, and Abu Bakrs servant Amr Ibn Fuhayra - so his entire household embraces Islam,
his only household embraces Islam, from the Parents to the Children, the whole household,
and it is agreed upon all the Scholars of Islam that Abu Bakr As-Siddiq was the first adult
convert of Islam amongst the man, there is the Ikhtilaaf in Tarteeb for those who are nonadults and female, who converted first, Ali or Abu Bakr (there is a bit of controversy) OK, in
terms of Khadija, Khadija converted first, so the Prophet (saw) came back to her, so Khadija is
defiantly the first convert, OK, then there is a big controversy and in my hummble opinion,
(many scholars say and that controversies is really insignificant in the largest scale of things, it
is really one group of Islam, that they want to push their way and say he converted and he
converted - at the End of the Day it is really irrelevant it is matter of hours and days, if Ali (r.a.)
was the first who converted (his age at this time was maybe 8 years old at max) and he is living
(i said that story before) that when the Prophet (saw) married Khadija, he told Abu Talib to give
him one of the children, so that he could raise, so that Abu Talib is a very poor man, so the
Prophet (saw) volunteered one of the children, so Ali (r.a.) grew up int he household of the
Prophet (saw) and this is a blessing, (we as Sunnis praised Ali Ibn Abi Talb the way that he
deserves to be praised, all of this issue between Shia and Sunnis are a lie, we give him every
single blessing that he deserves) Ali was a young child when he converted, and the
conversation of a young child is not the same as the conversion of an Adult Friend, that has to
been said frankly, and even if Ali (r.a.) converted first (we dont know) but even if he did, the
conversation of a young man, living in a house where both uncle and aunt, cousin convert is
not the same as the conversation of an adult friend, who offered islam, he thinks about that,
and without thinking he embraces, so Ali(r.a.) might had been time wise, early convert or
maybe not know , but we all unanimously agree that Abu Bakr was the first young adult
converting islam,
He also scarified much for Allah (swt) financially, even of his own health and jihad (fisabillilah)
even in the makkan stage, and one of the most famous stories i did mention 4 1/2 years ago,
but now we have to repeat that (because it is befitting) that Abu Bakr as siddiq are giving this
honor, that one of the earliest stories that we have is in Ibn Ishaq about Abu Bakr As-Siddiq
that when Islam reached 38 MAN, (so there are counting and keeping track) in Dar ur Arqam
Abu Bakr (r.a.) suggested to the Prophet (saw) that is now time to go public, this was in the
secret face, (the proper term is not secret, it is private dawah, remember I talked about this, it
is not good to say secret dawah, it is private dawah, but it is not gone public yet) so Abu Bakr
(r.a.) said: "We have now enough people to go now, we go public, let us go to the Kaabah and
let me invite the People to Islam" and at this point and time Allah (swt) has not reviled to the
Prophet Mohammad (saw) to go himself public (that Aya was not yet coming down) in the
Quran (26 Surah Ash Shuara, Verse 214):

(And lower your wing to those who follow you of the believers)

Abu Bakr - Lifes of Sahaba 2of2(by DrYasirQadhi)

4/11

This is the Aya that go public with, this Aya was not yet come down, so the question is , should
Abu Bakr go public with (the aya where not come down for that) so the Prophet (saw) was
hesitant, should I let you go, should I not let you go, Abu Bakr instant, "I can do the job, ittime
that we take this message public, lets call the people) so Abu Bakr valunteired to become the
first khateeb ever of Islam, that is the first Khutba ever given publicly the first sermon infront of
the masses, because Allah has not revealed for the Prophet (saw) to go public yet, he can not as we know, prophets can not undertake a step, until Allah tells them, right? So Abu Bakr
wants to do it, and it was up to the Prophet (saw) whether should he let him or not, initially he
is hesitant and Abu Bakr incites: "I want to do it, let me take on" they agree on a certain time
and space and all of the Sahaba go and station themselves in their tribal gatherings (what does
this mean: remember every tribe has his place infront of the kaaba and that was their safe,
basically they are surround by numbers, they are going to be protected by their people, and
the amazing thing is even in their hatred of Islam, Tribalis reign supreme especially in early
Islam, thats why they couldnt harm the Prophet (saw) for 13 years, thats why they couldnt
harm the elite of the sahaba and they took their anger out on bilal, amar, yasir and sumaya)
thats why this happened, he went to the middle of the kaaba (maydanal kaabah) nobody is
there, other then Allah to protect him, he began the first mouydha in the history of islam, that
is a trick question? Who is the first Khateeb of Islam (who gives the first lecture publicly)? That
is Abu Bakr As Siddiq (ra) and he invited the people to give up their idols and come to Allah
(swt) of course everybody know that there is a new message, but nobody has gone public yet,
and they surround Abu Bakr, they began to curse him, they began to tell him to be quite, but
he does not be quite, until the first one of them (and we know his name) and that is the
infamous Utbah Ibn Rabyyah, who has done so much to the prophet saw and he died at the
battle of Badr, he was one of those that the prophet (saw) pointed (the 7 people who did the
incident with the camel) he mentioned it by name: "Oh Allah i put you in charge of this, he
mentioned each one of them by name, and so Utbah is on eof thoese people and in this we see
his real character and nature, (everybody is worried, who is going to be the first, but you know
when there is a mob mentality as soon as one think break, what happens?, Khalas everybody
jumps one it) so Utbah Ibn Rabyyah took out his shoes and pounds on Abu Bakr with both
hands, and he began beating Abu Bakr with both hands, and that was the catalyst so the entire
crow just jumped on Abu Bakr and a complete mob chaos began, so Abu Bakr felt onto the
crowd, and the crowd began stomping and beating up at Abu Bakr, until he lost continues and
his entire body was bloodied and braced, cuts on his face until finally his tribe, the Banu Taym
finally was informed, so the Banu Taym came running and they protected Abu Bakr, they had
to carry him in a shall of one of them, he was so injured he have to used and Ambulance - and
his father thought that he would die, because he was completely bloodied at uncontiues and
they brought him back to the house of his mother, and they announced that, "If Abu Bakr dies
we will Kill Utbah Ibn Rabyyah" and this show us that Jahilyy tendencies has some advantages
aswell, that they are so angry that they have harm one of our own that they declare war at one
of the most cospicuas members of the Quraysh and that is Utbah Ibn Rabyyah and his father
Abu Quhafa is coxing him on his bed (you know he is in the house) wake up, what he would do
when he is unconscious, he is completly bloodied from head to toe and brust and he opens his
eyes up and the first thing that comes out of his mouth is : "How is Rasullullah (saw)" means his
lost consciousness and he thinked that all of the Muslims has been attacked, but he is in the
middle of the mob , he does not no that the rest of the Muslims has not been attacked, he
think everybody is beeing attacked, when his father hears this, from tendersness and love,
immidieate 180 to cursing and getting angry and this really shows us the bizarre nature of
parental love, right? that no matter what Abu Bakr has done, he is a son, righ? now at this
stage when Abu Bakr is dying , Abu Quhafa is like wake up, as soon as he wakes up and
mentiones Islam, subhannallah all of the enmety comes back in, and only a parent can
understand this love hate relationship with the children, so when he hears this, he got so angry
and courses Abu Bakr with the mother, Ab Bakrs mother name was (Qunya) was Umal Khair,

Abu Bakr - Lifes of Sahaba 2of2(by DrYasirQadhi)

5/11

that is her qunya Umal Khair, so he asks his mother, mafaalah rasullullah (saw) and his mother,
(and the mothers of course have 1000 times more love then the fathers right , the fathers
can have a different relationship) the mother says: "Eat drink", and he says "no until you tell
me how is rasullullah saw) he says: "I dont know what is the status of your friend" Im in the
house, you just came here" so he says to her "Go to Umme Jameel Bintal Khattab" which is of
course the sister of Umar Bin Khattab, go to her right now and ask her (she is a lady, Abu Bakr
has sent to her an another lady, she can send her a man,) and ask her is the Propeht (sawI
alright? ,so what shes gonna do, she puts on her garment the she goes right then and there to
the house of Umme Jameel and of course Umme Jameel is a Muslim, but nobody suppose to
know that, right? so Umal Khair (Abu Bakrs mother), goes to Umme Jameel and says: "My son
is asking about the status of Muhammad ibn Abdillah" because shes not gonna say Rasullullah
(shes not a Muslim) and Umme Jameel is now confused, is this a trap, is this a setup, what is
going on, so she said: "I neither know your son, no mohammad bin abdillah" meaning: "what i
wide to do whit this 2 man, why are they coming to me", of course she know who they are,
because shes a Qureshy, the point is that: "Why I have any information about Mohammad Ibn
Abdillah" so she said: "she is insisting that Im come to you" now she opens up a lil bit and
says: "Look, I dont no anything about the 2 of them, what if i come back to you and speak with
Abu Bakr directly" then i figure out, what hes wants from me, not shes voried that Im
opening up to an stranger, maybe this is a trap or a setup, she goes to the house of Abu Bakr
As-Siddiq and when she sees the status of Abu Bakr, she lets out a shreak and says: "However
have done this to you, may Allah curse him, may Allah get revenge of them, how could a
People do this to anybody, you are the most noble Person" - because of the Voice now, Abu
Bakr is managing to open his eyes, and he immidialty asks the same Question: "Mafaalah
Rasullullah saw" How is Rasullullah saw, and Umme Jameel says: "your mother is here"
meaning I cant answer this question, your mother is right there, there is a secrecy, like shes
not supposed to know, we are Muslims, and Abu Bakr As-Siddiq says dont worry we can trust
here, so he knows his mother, not a Muslima yet, everybody knows her mother, and Abu Bakr
knows, that my mother would not betray us, OK; so Umme Jameel says: "Allhamdullilah he is
bekhair, Waafihi, he is fine, nothing happened to him" he said: "Where is he" Umme Jameel
says: "In the house of Dar ul Arqam, we are all over there" now here mother says: "eat and
drink" and he said: "Wallahi I will not touch food and water, until is see with my own eyes, that
the Prophet (saw) is fine", so they wait until darkness falls, now he is beeing bloody and brust,
the same day, now he goes (when hand with is mother, the other hand on Umme Jameel" (of
course of this time tha laws of Hijaa was not revealed, these are times of exeption), he is
dragged by the 2 of them, he dont can even walk, he is dragged to the house of Arqm Ibn Al
Arqam and when he sees the Prophet (saw) he falls upon him, hugging him and crying in his
arms, so the Prophet (saw) is greatly moved and distressed, Abu Bakr As Siddiq comforts the
Prophet (saw) and said: "Wallahi Ya Rasullullah, Im absoluetly fine there is not, other than this
gashes (on the his face) all is fine", (imagine a crow is kicking him, until the banu taym come, 20
or 15 minutes are going by" and then he says: "Ya Rasullullah, that is my mother, and Allah
(swt) as blessed you, call here to Islam, make Dua that ALlah guides here to Islam, maybe Allah
save her from Jahanam" and so Prophet (saw) give Dawah to Ummal Khair (and this is were she
embraces Islam) so Abu Bakrs mother embraces Islam in the Private stage of the Dawah, - in
that incident we see so much benefits and blessing the love that Abu Bakr as Siddiq has for the
Prophet (saw), we also se the intelligence of Umme Jamil, the sister of Umar AL-Khattab, shes
try to understand, how much i would give and how much do I not give, wallahi it is a stroke of
genius, when she says: "I dont no anything about your son or this man Mohammad (saw),but
when I spoke with your son directly," so she gets the excuse to get to the house of Abu Bakr
and everybody knows what is happen, how is she visit Abu Bakr, (she is an unknown man to
her, but there are all Muslims in Dar ul Arqam) and subhannalh bit by bit all of the
informations is comes out, we see over here the usefullness of jahyliya, even if something is
going against Islam, you can take advantage as long is it not haram, the asabya, the tribalism of
Banu Taym, and not just the Triablism of Banu Hashim, Abu Talib? why did he protect the

6/11

Prophet (saw) ? he is not a muslim, but there is that issue of my Nephew, my tribe, nobody is
going to harm my tribe, there is nothing wrong to take advance of these issues and
understandings, because it is not haram, to take advantage of this things, Abu Bakr is not
saying: "No NO, i dont take advantage of this things, because you are not my tribe", same
things applied with nation states, with nationalities, with our rights and privileges, now we
have our own rights and privileges, whats wrong to saking advantage of it and to say: "It is my
right to treated in this manner" it is our right? and it is Islamic, Abu Bakr takes advantage of
this live, "Im the member of the Banu taym, your are not supposed to beating my up, tribes
protects him, takes advantage of that" and nurses him back to until he is healthy,
Aswell of course, to me one of the beautiful lesson to learn from this story, out of tragedys
come great blessings, wallahi we all know, Abu Bakr As-Siddiq what have done this 100 times, if
he get his mother to embrace islam, correct, and this is what happened, that after all of this
the mothers heart Umal Khair was so soft, she saw the reality of Imaan, she saw how much
Abu Bakr believes, she saw the Akhlaaq of Muslims, she saw the Prophet (saw) preaching for
the 1st time (because up unto this stage she hasnt heard Dawwah directly) and so now after
this tragedy, she embraces Islam, what is not worth this tragedy, (from Abu Bakrs eyes Im
saying, ) this perspective he would have this 100 times more, his mother to convert, every
single tragedy has withinit more blessings that the tragedy itself, as long as we has our trust
up there (to Allah) "Oh Allah something is happening, I dont know why, but I will know soon"
thats the aditute of the beliver, Abu Bakr used this (allah knows best) maybe he is engineering
that, that is mother goes to the Prophet (saw) right? we dont know what is thinking, maybe he
is intending that "I want my mother to come, to the prophet (saw) and get dawah to her, one
on one" and that is exactly what happened, so Ummal Khair Embraces Islam,
and another beautiful narration is mentioned in our books (that is a very famous narration) we
found that also in some books of hadith and some books of history, a beautiful narration and it
is very pertain and this narration is narrated from the tonque of Ali (r.a.) in praise of Abu Bakr
As-Sidddiq, and as I have said many many times before it is completely untrue, unfounded and
ludicrous to be honest to claim that Ali Ibn Abi Talib had anything against Abu Bakr (r.a.) there
is not a shred of evidence and everything speaks against it, every incident that we learn and
study, this is myth that you reading in that Abu Bakr and Umar (r.a.) and Uthman and Ali they
didnt get a long, this is complete untrue, everything speaks out against it, including that
incident that we are gonna mention here, whitich in mentioned in numerous tradition in our
and in Books of History, Ibn Kathirs Tarikh has this narration aswell that:
Ali was giving a Khutba amongst the People (the Sahaba) in Kufa, when he was the Khalifa, a
sermon or Moidha lecture, maybe not the Friday Khutba but some type of sermon or Moidha
and in the middle of it, he asks them: "Who was the bravest of all People" so the give various
names until somebody shouts out "You are the most bravest of all People" (meaning Ali) so Ali
(r.a.) says: "It is true that i never fought anybody except that I have won him, but the bravest
Person was Abu Bakr As Siddiq, nobody ever beat me in a battle, but bravery wise Abu Bakr
As-Siddiq was the bravest" then he said: "I remember a Day" so he is going back to these time
of early Dawah when he himself was a young child (maybe 8, 9 or 10 years old") "I remember
a Day, when the Quraysh surrounded the Prophet (saw) and began beating him and ganging up
on him not a single us amongst us can do anything" because of the shear quantity, this must be
towards to middle or later makkan periode, because as we said, they only turned physical on
the prophet (saw) after realy the 6th or 7th year of Dawah, right? before this time there were
still some so you know, to get physical really got and bad and with the death of Abu Talib that
was, when things really flipped, Abu Talib, Allah (azawajal) used him, to be a big shelter and it
is possible, that even this incident happen after the Death of Abu Talib, becasue Ibn Ishaq
mentioned, that the amount of physical pain, suffering that the Prophet (saw) had, after the
death of Abu Talib, sorry, before was nothing compare that happens afterwords, maybe that
incident happen after the death of Abu Talib, we dont know, nobody is recording the history,

Abu Bakr - Lifes of Sahaba 2of2(by DrYasirQadhi)

that incident is narrated in Ibn Ishaq, mentioning the story, but now we are hearing that from
the tonque of Ali (ra.) so Ibn Ishaq mentions the same story, the Quraysh ganged up on him
and Abu Bakr comes up to save him, but this version is interesting because we are hearing it as
an eyewitness from a young child, who is there at that time and that is Ali Ibn Abi Talib (r.a.) so
Ali says that: "On that Day everybody surrounded him and began beating him and none of us
can do anything, but one person stud up and jumped into the audience, the crowd and that
was Abu Bakr as Siddq and rushed into that crow, pushing this one away, defending this one,
hitting that one, hitting a bow on behalf of Prophet (saw) and he kept on saying. " A
Taqutuluna Rajulan An Yaqula Rabiallah" "Are you going kill a man just because he says: "My
Lord is Allah" this phrase Allah (swt) revealed in the Quran and it is recited in the Quran to this
Day: (in surah 40 Ghafir, Verse 28):

(And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh who concealed his faith said, "Do you kill a man
[merely] because he says, 'My Lord is Allah ' while he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord?
And if he should be lying, then upon him is [the consequence of] his lie; but if he should be truthful,
there will strike you some of what he promises you. Indeed, Allah does not guide one who is a
transgressor and a liar.)
Are you gonna kill a man, just because he said: "My Lord is Allah" why, and he kept on defending, the
Prophet (saw) until the crow abited away and so Ali (r.a.) is giving this Moidha, the cermont and the
images are going back to him and he began to cry, so much in the cermont that he have to lift his
cloth and covers his tears with it and when when he made that, the entire audience began to cry,
well than he said: "Who is better, the Muminu Ali Firawn or Abu Bakr As Siddiq?
Now Allah mentioned in Surah Ghafir, the Mumino Ale Firwan , you must know the story, the one
who was a beliver in the family of Firawn (that is mentioned in the Quran) who is better and he said:
"By Allah, Abu Bakr is a million times better, because the Mumino Ale Firwan kept his Islam secret
and Abu Bakr made his Islam public" and this clearly shows us the respect and love that Ali Ibn Abi
Talib had for Abu Bakr As-Siddiq and of course aswell,
So many other incidents are mentioning that really demonstrated Alis respect of Abu Bakr As Siddiq
(r.a.) btw. there is an interesting narration that (i mentioned this 2 years ago) and last week we
mentioned that Ali marry Asma, who was marry before Ali to Abu Bakr and before she is married to
Jaffar, so Asmas was married to Jaffar Ibn Abi Talib and Abu Bakr and Ali and she had children from
all the 3, so that are sons that are half-brothers (same mother) so Abu Bakr As Siddiq and Ali and Ibn
Abi Talib had children that are basically, half brothers, so one time, one of the sons of Jaffar and one
of the sons of Abu Bakr began teasing there mother (when Ali was present) there are in family, (wich
shows us the friendly nature that they had) and said: "Who was the best husband, you ever had"
Now you realize whats happening here, right? this is a problem, what she gonna say? OK (sheikh
Qadhi is laughing) who every she is mentioning, there is a problem, correct, look at the intelligence of
Asma so she marries Jaffar, when she was young and Jaffar was also young and of course then she
marries Abu Bakr, he is 62 years old, so she said: "Of the young man Jaffar was the best, of the

Shuyukh the old ones Abu Bakr was the best" so Ali said: "What have you left for me, Im gonne
"Khalas" you took the young and old, Im gone now - the point being even this narration what does it
really show: the familines, the closness, the relationship, i mean the clame that there was an hatered
animosity is just bizarre, if you read every single narration, its nothing but actual love and respect for
each other,
Back to the point over here: so Abu Bakr As Siddiq he was the 1st to call for Islam, he was the first to
suffer physically after the Prophet (saw), he was the 1st to give his money, he was the 1st to advise
the Prophet (saw), he was the first to free slaves from his own money and he freed over 10 of the
early slaves that embraced Islam, he freed over 10 of them, Bilal is just one of those names and when
he embraced Islam, he cut down his business dealings and therefore the fact of the matter is he no
longer has the source income that he had in the Days of Islam, because he stop traveling to Syria and
back and from limited amount of money he spent generously and freely and Allah (asawajal) gave
him back because he had trust in Allah (swt)
and we mention one more important Story and that is the Story of Ibn Daghina and the Hijra of Abu
Bakr As-Siddiq, so as we know in the 5th year of the Dawah our Prophet (saw) allowed the Muslims
to emigrate to Abyssinia and 1 by 1 they all began to emigrate and Abu Bakr aswell decidet to take
advantage of this, so he packet his belongings and with his wife and children basically made his way
outside of Makkah and Allah (swt) willed that the chieftain of the Ahabish - now pause here,
the Ahabish are mentioned a number of times and they are considered to be the nomads of the
Quraysh outside of Makkah, so you have the dwellers of the City and then you have the dwellers
around and Ahabish joined the Quraysh for many times for example in the Battle of Badr they gave
hundred, especially in the Battle of Ahzab they marched with the Quraysh, to support the Quraysh
against the Prophet (saw) , the Ahabish are basically the surrounding nomadic tribe, the y have a very
strongn relationship, a bloodline, (so many generations back), the Quraysh are cousins, 3rd cousins of
this subtribes, so the Ahabish are the outer dwellers and the Quraysh are the inner dwellers and of
course there is this notion that the Quraysh are the superior to them, because the Ahabish are the
nomads,
so Abu Bakr passes by Ibn Daghina, so Ibn Dahina are the chieftain of the Ahabish, so the seas all of
the belongings, the camels and the bags and everything, so he said: "Where are you leaving, oh Abu
Bakr" and Abu Bakr As-Siddiq said: "I`m leaving my land in order to worship my lord, because my has
prevented me, Im cant be a Muslim and worship Allah properly, Im going to Abysinnia basically" so
Ibn Daghina says: "Someone like you " - La Yachrudschu Wala Yuchradsch" He can neither leave
Makkah no he can be forced out of Makkah" and then he listed and I mentioned that last week the
same things that Khadija (r.a.) said about our Prophet (saw) "You are good to your relatives and you
feed the orphan and you take care of the poor and you fulfill the promise and you do everything that
the people need you to do, you are loving to your friends and relatives all of this descriptions, she
acutally used the same words that Khadija (ra) used to describe the Prophet (saw) and he basically
said: "You are to good to leave Makkah, I cant let you leave Makkah, let me go and negotiate with
the Quraysh" so they went back right then and there, Ibn Daghina did Tawaf (that was the custom,
whenever you enter Makkah you did Tawaf, that is still the custom for our Sharia aswell) an then he
calls the leaders of Makkah (he is the chieftain, he has the right to made, that) then he make a
proclamation "Would you agree and allow me the right and protection to stay in Makkah" now
remember so many times we talked about this, that the chieftains had the right to give Visas
(basically) and when you gave the Visa nobody can harm you with the chieftain getting involved) that
becomes a matter of honor and pride, imagine now even in nation states if an American citizen is
mistreated, then all of America should technically is involved, and should negotiate on your behalf
and whatnot, its a matter of pride that this was an American that was mistreated, so similarly open
the passport, so thats basically the aman, but instead of the passport you have the chieftain giving
it) so what these impaize is that Abu Bakrs Father and Banu Taims chieftain are no longer welcome

Abu Bakr - Lifes of Sahaba 2of2(by DrYasirQadhi)

with us, Abu Bakr now has to leave, he doesnt have protection, Ibn Daghina then goes and says:
"Can I give him my Protection and if the Quraysh said yes then they are in trouble if they break it"
there is then a war between the Quraysh and the Ahabish, not because of Abu Bakr, because of
Honor and Pride, because its my Word and you broke it, OK, so the Quraysh said, "that is you right
but we have one condition "He cant read out loud the Quran in Public and he cannot pray infront of
the Kaaba" thats our condition, he can do whatever he wants in the house, but he cannot read
Quran and Pray because we find the hearts of our children are swaying and they wanna embrace
Islam, the Sufaha amongst us and our children and women, are being swaybe by Abu Bakr and his
recitation and Aysha is narrating and said: "Abu Bakr wa Rajulun Bakka" he would always cry when
he is reading the Quran, he would be very emotional as he is reading the Quran and the people
would be mesmerize by that , (that he is crying), so Abu Bakr agreed, Ibn Daghinna said, that im not
gonna read infront of the Kaaba out and loud on the streets, so he decided to build a small chamber
(a type of storage room, like an extension of his house) where he could worship Allah a mini Masjid
(a shed), a lil place where he worship Allah and of course, space is limited, the direction of the shed
was the direction of the Road, it is not a big backyard, it is to go towards the Road, he made a small
chamber, where there was space to pray and he would began to recite the Quran and pray in there,
and People began gathering around that lil chamber, crying with the crying of Abu Bakr, and being
moved by the recitation of Abu Bakr, so the Quraysh send an embesarry to Ibn Ad-Daghinna, and said
to him, "Either you tell Abu Bakr to destroy that shed and go to the middle of the house (that nobody
can hear him) or get rid of your protection so we can (Basically) deal with him, so Ibn Ad-Daghina is
put in between these awkward situation, the he sends (or go) an embesarry and he basically says to
Abu Bakr "Look, this is what your people have said to me, so you chose, either you go in the middle
of your house and abandoned you shed, or if you insist i have to withdraw my protection" and so Abu
Bakr As-Siddiq said: "I take away my protection from you and I put Allah as my protector" that
Khalas, you go and Allah will be one who give me a man, and so after this, he along with the Prophet
(saw), the both of them did not have that Visa, remember that was why our Prophet (saw) was going
places, that there was no person after the death of Abu Talib basically for a while (remember I said
this) Abu Lahab agreed to (Jahiliya), a Kind of have to, then even he said I cannot do this anymore
and he withdruw the protection, so that is so amazing, that from all of the Sahaba there are so many
similarities, that Abu Bakr as Siddiq and the Prophet (saw) they both of them are living without a man
under the aman of Allah (swt) and this shows us the Imaan of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq,
I dont go in the Hijra of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq because i talked about that in detail in the Seerah
Episodes, we talked about the fact the Abu Bakr wanted to Migrate and Prophet (saw) said: "Wait,
perhaps Allah has chosen a partner for you, and he didnt click, he never imagine that he will be
given that privilege, but when it came Aysha remember this, one of the first memorys of Aysha (r.a.),
she said (the famous phrase): "Walahi, I never believed that somebody could cry out of happpiness
until I saw my father crying the Day that the Prophet (saw) told him, you could migrate with me" so
Aysha remembered that (she must have been 4 or 5 at that time), that is one of the 1st memorys,
and the fact that Abu Bakr as camels prepared that his son Abdullah participated Asma broke that
Date Nitaqayn (she tor her belt into 2, used one to tie), so really Abu Bakr As-Siddiq and his family
ingeniered the entire Hijra and I wanna conclude on this Aya in the Quran which is in Surah AtTawbah (Verse 40), that:

Abu Bakr - Lifes of Sahaba 2of2(by DrYasirQadhi)

10/11

"If you do not help the Prophet (saw), then know that Allah has already helped him"
When Kufar kicked him out and he and his partner "Thani Asnayni" therefore one of the titles of Abu
Bakr is "Thani Asnayn" because he is the 2nd of the two, the one of them is the Prophet (saw) and
the other one is thany asnayn, he is the 2nd of the 2, Thani Asnayn, Izuhoo Mahfil Ghary - When the
2 of them where in the cave, "Izyaqulu Sahibihi" "When he (the Prophet saw) said to his sahib "La
Tahzan" Dont Worry, Inalaha Maahan, Allah is with us" Fanzarallahu Sakinatan Anziral Ilaihi "So Allah
sends his sakina down upon him" Wayyadahi Jundi Lamtarauha" That Allah helped him with an army
that you cant see"
Now this verse is one of the explicit verses, testifying the praise of Abu Bakr As Siddiq, how so Allah
(swt) is explicitly saying that Abu Bakr is used by him to help Rasullallah, none of you else did it, but I
have already helped him, when the 2 of them, so Allah (swt) is putting him with the Prophet (saw) ,
then Allah (swt) calls him "Sahib" no other Sahabi has been called Sahib by Allah other then Abu Bakr
As-Siddiq, it doesnt mean theyre not but it is an honor for Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (ra) to be called
"Sahabi", anybody who denies that Abu Bakr is a Sahabi has rejected the Quran , "Izyakulu Li
Sahibihi" "When he said to his Sahib", so Allah has affirmed "Suhba" which is companionship for our
Prophet (saw), as well Allah has demonstrated that the Prophet (saw) cares for Abu Bakr, "Dont,
worry, that you only tell somebody dont worry, calm down , when you care about them" so Allah
has affirmed the love that Rasullullah (saw) has for Abu Bakr, Inalaha maana, the Prophet (saw) is
saying: "Allah is with the 2 of us" , can there be any praise higher than this, Allah, the Prophet (saw)
and Abu Bakr, and therefore this phrase in particular is the highest praise given to Abu Bakr (r.a.),
that one the Tongue of Prophet (saw) he is saying, that Allah is with us,, imagine, i even dont need to
explain that to you, how beautiful this is, and powerful this is, that Allah(swt) is telling us in the
Quran, Rasullullah (saw) is saying that Allah is with us, and he said "US" he is putting Abu Bakr
together, ,
So Allah send down Sakina, so when Sakina came Abu Bakr is there, and Allah helped him, therefore
this verse in Surah At-Tawbah is a verse that has full praise of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (r.a.)
