On October 3, 2015, Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought
(BIIT) offered its heartfelt condolence to the kind wife, children, many grandchildren and rest of the family of Dr. Jamal al-Barzinji on his passing. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun (To Allah we belong and to Him we return). Dr. Jamal Barzinji, a pioneer in establishing Muslim American institutions and one of the co-founders, a trustee & vice president for Research & Publications of IIIT, who passed away on September 26 in the United State, the second day of the Muslim feast of sacrifice at the age of 76. He was suffering from a rare form of cancer.. The condolence meeting began with a recitation from the verse of Holy Quran by Mr Khurshed Alam Bhuiyan, Assistant Director for Finance of BIIT and was chaired by the Vice President for Publication of BIIT Mr M A Rashid Khan. On behalf of BIIT, executive member Mr Solaiman Miah recalled his working experience at IIUM with Dr Barzinji when Dr Barzinji served there as a Dean of Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences & Mr Miah as a Faculty. Mr Miah became surprised, being a PhD and MSc in Chemical Engineering, how could a man like Barzinji transformed the Kulliyyah into a world-class academic unit. Actually, under the leadership of Dr Jamal, the Kulliyyah reflected the philosophy of integration of knowledge that brought together the disciplines based on Divine Revelation with those that were rooted in humanistic and social science inquiry, added Mr Solaiman Miah in his speech. From the chair, Mr M A Rashid Khan described Dr Barzinji as an intellectual, an educator and an international community builder, a brilliant strategist & a humanitarian. He told that with the passing of Dr Barzinji, we lost him physically in one hand. But most importantly we will also be missing from his scholarly directions on the other hand because the death of an Islamic scholar & a visionary leader at international level like him is an innumerable loss for the Muslim community over the world and for human beings at large. He ended the address with a formal prayer for the soul of Dr Barzinji and for peace, prosperity and wellbeing of his immediate family. May Allah (swt) Shower him with His mercy, Reward him for his dedicated service and Grant him the highest rank in paradise. Mr Abdullah Al-Amin, Assistant Director (Admin) of BIIT was the moderator of the program where Mr Mahfuzar Rahman, Assistant Director (Research & Publication) along with staffs of BIIT was present.
