The Harlem Renaissance

The national and global importance of
the Harlem Renaissance is how it
influenced many cultures around the
world.
Jazz became extremely popular around
the world during WWII overseas
because it served as a reminder of
home. It drew on different regional
and local musical cultures.
This historical event also has a great
impact on the art community. Aaron
Douglas who painted murals of African
American people which great world
recognition. Augusta Savages
sculptures displayed hope and
optimism that is seen in much of other
Harlem Renaissance work showing the
human side of her subjects treating
them with respect and admiration.
Both artists goals were to counteract
racism in the US by creating global
awareness.

The popularity of these African

Americans was widespread, and

generated acceptance of culture and a

time of black pride.

Our Memorial
The memorialization of the Harlem
Renaissance would be one of grace
and would convey the diversity and
novelty of the Harlem Renaissance.
The Harlem Renaissance was a
literary, artistic, and intellectual
movement that centered on the
emergence of jazz music and beat
poets.
We want to memorialize this
movement by constructing a building
dedicated to the arts.
A center for music, dance, and art
with a mural painted on the front
depicting the happiness the beams
from the faces of the people. The
mural would be a scene with jazz
musicians and dancing couples,
tables in the background with beat
poets writing of their experiences
and emotions with great passion.
Rather than having a statue or a
plaque that will weather away with
time and become a mere forgotten
event, the center would serve a
purpose and be useful to those
interested in the arts and especially
to those who choose to remember all

the positive change that came with

Harlem Renaissance.
