Joining the Men's Shed, induction and making sure that they would accept me in the
shed for the internship,

‘When first applied to the Men's shed they osked me to come along and visit the
shed to ensure that they were comfortable with taking me in to the shed.
‘They also needed to go through al ofthe paper work and take my through an
induction on all machinery
This took several hours and allowed me to gain an understanding of the men’s shed

Today the purpose was to go to the men’s shed and measure and mark out the
shelves. There was also time to biscuit some of the holes and get the timber ready
‘tobe glued up. This was a test to see if what had been designed could be achieved.

Task: Finish testing and experimenting
Skills and knowledge | Today the designer finished the testing, when they put the shelf together they
acquired realised that they had not thought about the height of the biscuit tool and how it
‘would affect the pieces of wood being joined together. Therefore when they make
the cuts on the proper pieces for the project they have to ensure the height of the
biscuit tool is correct and itis used the same way forthe pieces so that they line up.
[At the men’s shed today the students moved around to see what some of the other
‘members are making. One gentleman in particular was making some feather pencil
‘cases for 3 nearby school and he asked for some help.
Note: first Friday of the month, the BBQ, good time to interact with the members
‘and learn about what they are doing.

Task Measuring and marking out shelves and making the cut
SKIS and knowledge | Today the student used the knowledge from the past 2 weeks to measure and mark
acquired cut the shelves that were tobe the final shelves forthe project.

The timbers marked out and the eut marks are made. The student then using the
biscuit machine goes along and makes all the necessary biscuit cuts.

Task: Put the whole of the project together
‘Skills and knowledge | Today there was @ large mount of jobs to be completed to finish the project. They
acquired ‘were all small jobs that were needed to ensure the project was finished in enough

getting ready for a finish to be applied.
The table top was glued to the top of the job and then the wine glass rack had to be
