Lesson Topic: Design your own Australian flag

Time: 9:00-11:00

Ss have been learning about Australian identity in HSIE, and have discussed whether they want to change the current Australian flag or keep it same.

By the end of this lesson, the students will:

- Complete the research task and answered the questions on
the sheet
- Design of their own Australian flag

Any safety issues to be considered:


Ss are under supervision at all time

- Ss will complete their research task on the


question sheet, T will collect the sheet at the end of
the lesson and check Ss progress.
--Ss will create a piece of artwork applying their
knowledge about Australian identify that learnt from
the previous HSIE lesson

Your task for this morning is to use an IPad or laptop to
research 2 flags from different countries, name the country of
the flag and complete the questions on this paper (shows to
the Ss) T shows an example of it. After you finish that, you can
turn the page over and start designs your own flag at the back
of the paper. After you have done that, you will need to show it
me, and then transfer to an art paper, and you can use any
materials we want.

T sets time frame, You will need to have the research task
finished before 10:00. Some of you have already started last
lesson, that is great, there are on the floor, if you are one of
them, come and get your paper and transfer it onto this one.
T asks Ss to recap what they are support to do.

T hands out the question sheet and reminds Ss that it is an
