Claims
Claims made under this policy should be addressed to the Director of Environment and Transport,
Endeavour House, Russell Road, Ipswich, Suffolk, and must contain full details of the accident to
which they relate.
Accidents
Any volunteers involved in an accident, however slight, whilst undertaking duties for the County
Council, should report it immediately to the full-time paid officer of the County Council who is in
charge of the work, or the officer who authorised the work to be carried out. Full details of the incident
e.g. time, place, injuries sustained, names of witnesses etc., should be stated to enable the officer to
complete an accident report form.
Health and Safety at Work
Volunteers are reminded of the need to take care for their own safety and the safety of other persons
employed on the site who may be affected by their work. When using mechanical equipment and
tools safe working practices should be followed. If in doubt, ask the supervisor!
First Aid
The supervisor normally carries a first aid kit. Before commencing to use mechanical equipment or
tools, or to work in the vicinity of someone using such equipment, ensure that you know the
whereabouts of the first aid kit and the person trained to render first aid.
Public Liability
The County Council effects a Public Liability Insurance Policy that will indemnify the Authority in
respect of all claims for compensation arising from injury to persons or damage to property caused by
the negligence of the County Council, its employees, or volunteers acting on its behalf.
Such claims should be referred to the Director of Environment and Transport and any correspondence
received from the Third Party involved should be referred unanswered to the Director of Environment
and Transport who will forward it to the County Treasurer for attention. Further, no oral or written
statement should be given without first contacting the Director of Environment and Transport.
