6 Soptember 1972Welcome to the Antioch School of Lew. The day is finally
here. You are here.
Listening to the noises in the hall yesterday, it was hard
to tell who is more excited. You. The faculty. The adninistra-
tive officers. The secretarial staff. Or the two of us. This
day is very special, And to us, after sifting through over a
thousand applications, you stand out as a unique very wonderful
and precious group of human beings.
When the accreditation team from North Central came for an
inspection a fey months ago, we were asked what was our sense of
the kind of student body we would have; what would be your dis-
tinguishing characteristic, We did not point to the diversity--
though we could have; or the maturity -~ which ve could have; or
the richness of practical experience and service. The answer
that we gave was not precise, but it was true to our sense of
you then. It is no less true now.
We said: If someone had asked us a year ago which student
body would we pick to have court decisions analyzed and disected
with surgical precision, we would probably have said try the
Harvard student body. ‘That is their distinctive forte.
