RAFT Row 1
Objective: You will be able to tell what makes the weather change and why the weather
changes. Washington state second grade science standards ES2 changes in weather and water
(Science Standards Grades 2-3, 2015). The ISTE standards that this follows would be creation
and collaboration because the students will be using Power points to creatively create a
presentation to present. (ISTE Standards for students, 2015).

Student Role: A weather announcer for a local news channel.


Audience:

Favorite news channel listeners.

Format

An informational weather presentation.

Topic:

Have you ever wondered why the weather changes and what makes it change?

Directions: 1.) Visit http://www.msnucleus.org/membership/html/k6/wc/weather/k/wcwek_3a.html for information on what makes weather change.
2.) Take notes on why weather changes and how.
3.) Make a 8 slide power point organizing the information you find
4.) Present the power point you made in front of the class as if you were weather news anchor on
the local news.

Assessment: Prepare a 8 slide power point on the information found on the what makes the
weather change.
10 points will be graded on each slide and 20 points will be given on notes that are taken for 100
points total.

RAFT Row 2
Objective: You will be able to recognize the life cycle of plants and animals. Washington state
second grade life science standards LS1 life cycles (Science Standards Grades 2-3, 2015). The
ISTE standards that this meets would be collaboration and creativity because broad casting
information would creatively benefit both the person presenting and the group being presenting
to.
Student Role: A radio broadcaster for a university radio station.
Audience: University Students.
Format: An informational podcast report.
Topic: Have you ever wondered why plants and animals live and die?

Directions: 1.) Use resources giving bellow to find information on life cycles
2.) Take notes on resources on information on life cycles
3.) Write a podcast in a word document that is at least 500 words long
4.) Use a free podcasting website to make a podcast of information found.

Assessment: Prepare a 2 minute podcast on both human and plant life cycles.
20 points will be appointed each for content, organization and notes taken for this assignment.

RAFT Row 3
Objective: You will write a news article on any current trending topics. Washington State second
grade writing standards (English Standards Grades 2-3, 2015). The ISTE Standards that this
would pertain to would be collaboration and creativity this is because when writing this
newspaper article it will have to be creative to peak interest to the readers.
Student Role: Newspaper writer
Audience: Favorite Newspaper readers.
Format: An information newspaper post.
Topic: Have you ever wondered how to organize a paper?

Directions: 1.) Find a current trending news story to write a news article about.
2.) Take notes on the current news story
3.) organize the notes into a informative news article keep opinions and first person out of the
format.
