the events of the war, he now suffers from PTSD.

The narrative structure of Voices will be linear with flashbacks in it. The
theme of the show being PTSD means that the past would be very
much present throughout the whole show. The primary conflicts that
will be faced will be the flashbacks and how they have traumatised
him. The resolutions will mostly be about how he has learnt to deal
with these crises. The flashbacks are also significant as they are the
scenes that bring the sci-fi element to it, meaning that I will be able
to please the audiences needs whilst still being able to add a
dramatic element. As I want this radio drama to remain unique it will
be a single-piece with no continuity. Personally I feel this would be
played at a later time, but before watershed as it wont be explicit.

Narrative Structure

CHARACTER PROFILE
Han was born to the average middle class family of the future. His
father was a general in the military and his mother worked in
administration at his school, on the Moon. His father was a big
to him, and due to him being so inspired by his

fathers stories, he knew from a young age he wanted to be
able to report those stories just like his father. He went
through school like every Average Joe, and went to the
University of Mars to study Extraterrestrial Journalism. Here
was where he met his best friend and work partner Lee. Lee
was at the same university and was studying cinematography
in television. Both of them shared a passion of journalism,
which helped to bond a friendship between the two. After both
completing their degrees, they moved in as flat mates and
both got separate jobs. Han got a job as a runner for an
international television network. This would help him to open
up into the world of journalism. As time progressed, he was
recognized more and more by people higher up in the
journalism industry. He worked his way up and managed to get
a job as a web journalist. In the meantime he managed to also
secure Lee a job as a cameraman in the studio. Eventually he
got a promotion to field journalism. Here was when him and
Lee became professional partners, as they required each
other. They went on many different adventures as they worked
together, reporting on many different intergalatical stories.
Eventually they were both sent out to report on the
intergalatical war and this was where Lee was shot while on
the job.
Han is 5ft11 with short, thin sandy hair. He has a very defined jaw,
with blue eyes. He is usually seen wearing a suit, with a
checkered tie, however his suits never usually fit him, as
theyre often too small.

CHARACTER PROFILE
LEE
Lee is the late best friend and work partner of Han. Han was born to a
lower class family, however from a young age he often expressed his
desire to film and report. He went through most of his youth making
short films with his childhood camera, the XTI 505. This camera would
become a very important part of his life, as it was where his passion all
started. As he went to school he was a member of the film club and the
journalists club. Through his hard work and effort he managed to earn a
scholarship into the University of Mars on Extraterrestrial
Cinematography. While he was at university, he met Han. Lee felt like he
found someone he could completely relate to when he met Han due to
the both of them sharing the same passion. He would go on to share an
apartment with Han. While Han got a job at an international television
network, Lee did not secure a job as quickly. He got a job in retail in the
biggest shop in the Universe, the Moon. However this was only a
temporary solution. As Han was building up the ranks in his workplace,
he managed to secure Lee a job as a cameraman. This lead them to
becoming official business partners, as they both required each other to
do their jobs. Throughout there many adventures in space, Lee always
kept hold of his camera as it held to heart to him. It was during a report
on the field during the intergalatical war that he was shot dead.
Lee is 6ft2 with thick, black hair. Hes very well built and has been from a
young age. Often his outfit will consist of jeans and a plain t-shirt.

CHARACTER PROFILE
JIM
Jim is the boss at Hans workplace.
He is the Editor and has been
working there for 20 years. He is
a kind, passionate, headstrong
man, however he is still a strict
man in the workplace. He is the
person who chose Han and Lee
to go out and report on the war.
Because of this he feels partially
responsible for Lees death, so
he tries his upmost to make
sure that Han is comfortable in
the workplace. He is not the
most significant character in the
piece, but is still important as
he helps Han to calm down
when he is in a panic attack.

HANNAH
Hannah is the new trainee at Hans
workplace. She is assigned to
Han so that he can train her to
become as good a journalist as
he is. As she is new she is
unaware of what has happened
in recent events, so sometimes
she does not say the wisest
words. She does become one of
the people who unfortunately
triggers Han to go into panic
attacks. She will play a key role
in the piece because of this. She
is kind, however also slightly
nave. Nonetheless, she still is
keen to learn new things about
her new job.

SOUNDS
My audience will be expecting certain sounds in the production
due to the nature of it being a sci-fi piece. Sounds typically
expected will be sounds that sound futuristic and
technological. However my piece is also meant to be set in
an office, which will too have certain sounds to expected.
This would include the sound of people talking, phones
ringing, people shouting instructions etc. By doing this I
know that I can meet the audiences expectations, whilst
also being able to add to the sense of an office environment.

TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC
My target audience will be

34 in the C2 socioeconomic group. They
are quite a masculine
group of people but
enjoy sci-fi pieces. They
will have expectations
from what to expect
from a sci-fi piece,
especially with the
sense of action and
excitement. They will
also be of age where
they can deal with more
mature themes, such as
PTSD which of course is
a heavy element in the
piece.

Through
will
bring the sci-fi element that
they would expect. The themes
of the piece are companionship
and loss, and I believe this will
be a good analysis of the target
audience as it is something that
they too can relate too. They
will also expect to hear certain
sounds and for the piece to be
set in certain settings. This is
where the flashbacks come into
play, as they put these elements
into it. However I think the
piece will also excite them by
being slightly different with the
kitchen sink drama being
blended into it. Hopefully they
will find it to be a unique and
interesting piece.

STATEMENT OF INTENET
I believe that my radio drama will be a unique and entertaining
radio drama like no other has been seen before, which is
why I think it should be chosen to be produced. It is cost
efficient and will provide its target audience with a unique
twist to what has been seen and expected from other radio
dramas. The blending of genre elements will also make it a
reason to be produced, as it is experimental and I think that
it might be an innovation in radio dramas, which would
hopefully inspire others to make radio dramas like this. I
think also because my radio drama shows a clear analysis of
its target audience. A key focus of the drama is about PTSD,
loss, and companionship. I feel while my target audience
may not be able to connect with the concept of PTSD, they
will be able to relate to loss and companionship.

COST
My radio drama will be only a 5-minute drama, but this will
mean I will have to hire it out for an hour. The costs of an
established writer would cost about 56.68 per minute for a
script fee. As my drama is 5 minutes long, I would need to
pay my writer 283.40. I can find writers on the
Writers Guild. My radio actors would cost typically about
100-250 per episode for a radio drama. I can find voice
actors at Voices. I will need radio equipment to record it,
which I could find for 238.21. However, hiring out Beehouse
studios will cost me 199 for 5 hours of recording, which is
more than enough. This can be found on BSW I will also
need 4 actors, 2 main characters and 2 support characters.
This would cost between 400-1000 for all of them. This
would bring the total cost up between 921.61-1,521.61.
This will meet my budget of 20,000 and the rest of the
budget can be spent on sounds and music.
