Designing, Selecting and Sequencing Activities


Students (Ss) brainstorm What is Gold? as a
class. Teacher (T) facilitates discussion through
questioning: Where does it come from? Where
was gold first discovered in Australia? What
can be made from gold? What is the Gold
Rush and what is it its significance to Australian
History and Democracy?
Ss are then given the following website:
http://www.australianminesatlas.gov.au/educati
on/down_under/gold/index.html and are to
develop a mind map about Gold in Australia in
table groups

Randolph Stow
T asks students for predictions of the text by
looking at the cover
T reads the first page (modelling)
T then picks Ss to read (one page each)
If Ss are struggling with a word T
helps/corrects them
After reading the chapter, T then goes through
the content by questioning, What happened in
this chapter? What is some vocabulary that you
dont understand?
