SCIENCE CONCEPT PLANNER

Experience: Plant seeds to

grow a flower. As the plant
grows, discuss needs of plants
include room to grow,
temperature range, light,
water, air, nutrients and time.

Experience: Do a nature walk

around the school or at a local
park. Identify the different
types of wildlife that you saw.

Experience: Observe a miniecosystem under a rock in

their local area. Discuss how
the bugs depend on the soil
and rock.

the habitats in Ohio. Have
student fill out a comparison
chart with information on the
different habitats by using
non-fiction books on habitats
provided by the teacher.

OLS: Living things

have physical traits
and behaviors, which
influence their
survival.

Third Grade
OLS: Plants and
animals have life
cycles that are part of
their adaptations for
survival in their natural
environment

Experience: Have students create

a habitat that is found in Ohio
using different provided art

Experience: Create an
ecosystem within the
classroom that includes worms
and plants to discuss how
animals and plants within an
ecosystem depend on each

Kindergarten

Experience: Create a birdfeeder.

Place it outside of the classroom.
Investigate what animals eat the
birdseed to determine what
animals use that as a food
source.

Second Grade

OLS: Living things cause

changes on the earth

Experience: Students will do a

animal picture sort. They will glue
the correct animal under the
correct habitat. After doing this, the
student will write a few sentences
as to why the certain animals go in
each particular habitat.

Experience: Discuss the different

habitats that are in Ohio. Have
students pretend that they are an
animal living in one of those
habitats. Have them write about
what they would need for food,
where they would find shelter, etc.
Experience: Students will
choose an animal that is in
Ohio. They will describe the
animals specific habitat,
lifecycle, and food chain. They
will also include if the animal
is extinct or not and why that
Experience: Students will go
outside and make
observations about the habitat
their school is in. They will
write characteristics of their

Experience: The students can have

aunt farms and observe them to see
how the aunts interact with the
environment. Another animal could be
bees and the importance of them, the
effect that they have on the
environment and on us.
