Rationale/Reflection
NAEYC Standard: STANDARD 7: EARLY CHILDHOOD FIELD EXPERINECES
Field experiences and clinical practice are planned and sequenced so that candidates develop the
knowledge, skills and professional dispositions necessary to promote the development and learning of
young children across the entire developmental period of early childhood- in at least two of the three early
childhood age groups (birth- age 3, 3 through 5, 5 through 8 years) and in the variety of settings that offer
early education (early school grades, child care centers and homes, Head Start programs). (NAEYC,
2010).

Brief Description of Evidence:

As part of my Early Childhood Education courses during my time at Ivy Tech Community
College field experience was a significant part in gaining the knowledge, skills and professional
dispositions necessary to promote the development and learning of young children across the
developmental period of early childhood age groups and in the variety of settings and facilities that offer
early education to these diverse group of children.

Analysis of What I Learned:

Through the completion of this course I have gained the ability and the understanding of how
important it is for myself as a teacher and a professional to have access to a wide array of
developmentally appropriate approaches, interactional strategies for any age group as well as the tools
necessary to connect with the children and families to positively influence each and every childs
development and growth in my classroom through these field experiences. Also through completion of
these field experiences I am able to successfully, create positive relationships and supportive interactions
with children and their families of any age group by gained knowledge from these field experiences.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the

NAEYC Standard:
My competence in this standard is proven by my ability to collaborate, observe and implement
lesson plans alongside my mentor during these field experiences to develop the knowledge, skills and
professional dispositions necessary to promote the development and learning of young children across the
entire developmental period of early childhood. Through these field experiences I have gained the
knowledge to practice and apply developmentally appropriate skills, the interactional strategies for any
age group as well as the tools necessary to connect with the children and families to positively influence
each and every childs development and growth across the entire developmental period of early childhood
in my classroom in a professional and respectful manner.
