At this stage, I have some concerns about the progress of this Pre-service
Teacher.
.
.
I consider this Pre-service Teacher may be at risk of not being able to meet
the Developing level of the Pre-service APSTs
Please provide written feedback about areas of strength and areas needing improvement.
Professional Knowledge:
Kenny shows a great passion for student learning and is committed to providing the
best learning experiences possible, for his students. He familiarises himself with each
of the curriculum areas and is well-prepared before teaching all of his lessons. He is
open to receiving constructive criticism and feedback and really tries to take this onboard before venturing onto the next thing. Kenny lacks confidence in some areas
due to his perception of lack of knowledge of content, however, with Professional
Development, he will develop his knowledge of grammar concepts etc, in which he
finds difficult. Kenny now has knowledge about the roles and responsibilities an
educator plays within a Reception/Year 1 classroom; including carrying out daily
timetable activities and routines, classroom/school procedures and policies, lesson
planning processes (daily, weekly and unit plans), evaluations of students' learning
needs, interests and developmental needs and assessment, recording and reporting
practices. Kenny has also been provided with information about each of the students
in order to better understand how to support their learning needs.
Professional Practice:
Kenny is hard-working and committed to making the most out of his practicum
experience. He has accumulated strategies about managing learning environments,
behavioural management techniques and achieving the Australian Curriculum
standards and competencies relating to all learning areas. It is wonderful to see him
develop his skills as a pre-service educator. Kenny has been provided with ongoing
opportunities to constantly interact and work directly with all students. Furthermore,
he has had numerous opportunities to explore his teaching skill-set. During this
placement Kenny will continue to develop lessons aligned with the Australian
Curriculum and South Australian Teaching for Effective Learning Framework Guide
(SA TfEL).
Professional Engagement:
Kenny has developed relationships with every student in our class. He has engaged
with different families and has witnessed the complexities of families and their
interaction with the school environment. Due to his friendly nature he is easily
approachable and flexible to new ideas and ways of doing. I was most impressed
with Kennys enthusiasm in attending and assisting the Year 1 camp at Aldinga. I
visited Kenny and the students whilst on camp, and it truly was wonderful to see the
interactions between students/teachers and the environment. I also received positive
feedback from staff and leadership who said that Kenny showed great initiative whilst
on camp and was a valued team member. Kenny displays many positive behaviour
management strategies which no doubt he has been developing while working with
OSHC, however he is fine-tuning some of these and really developing them to make
his own skillset. Kenny has also worked with several other teachers throughout the
school who have given positive, encouraging feedback to Kenny and his practice. I
believe with a little more confidence Kenny will truly make an excellent educator.

Pre-service teachers please complete this Interim Review and discuss it with your mentor teacher.
The purpose of this review is to ensure that you can accurately assess your own performance and
develop a plan for your personal development.
Provide written reflections about your areas of strength and areas needing improvement:
Use the headings: Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice and Professional
Engagement.
Professional Knowledge
During my professional experience I believe I have built good relationships with
students and as a result I think that I have a good understanding of how to teach
particular students and individualise students learning based on their capabilities.
This is my first time teaching and my first time really understanding what Foundation
students need to learn. I did not have a grasp on how simplified and explicit your
teaching has to be. My mentor teacher, Kimberley, has been fantastic and has really
helped me to understand what to teach these students. This is something I will
continue to work on.
Something else that I believe needs improvement is my content knowledge. Some of
the things that are being taught are areas I have not looked at in a long time, such as
grammar concepts. As a result my content knowledge is something I need to work
on. I will undertake Professional Development in these areas.
Professional Practice
As I mentioned before, something I think is an area of strength is the relationships I
have built with the students. This helps me from a professional practice point of view
because the students are now prepared to open up and learn with me.
Something that I believe is an area that needs improvement is the way I teach
students at the foundation level. I have not had a great deal to do with a how
students from Foundation level learn and as a result some of my lessons have not
been as engaging as they could have been. I have to say this has been one of the
biggest challenges for me. I am therefore developing my understanding(s) of playbased and inquiry learning.
Professional Engagement
I think I have done a good job at being friendly and making relationships with other
teachers at the school. In the past week I went on camp with year ones including
those from my practical class and was able to build some good relationships with
different teachers and other members of the schooling community.
I sometimes dont have confidence in my ability and knowledge and as a result I find
it hard to engage with other teachers on a professional level. I think I need to work on
coming out of my shell more and build some professional relationships as opposed to
friendly relationships.
I have also been able to engage with different parents and families of students in my
class. Building these relationships are crucial in providing an education to students.
Although I have been able to do this with some parents I would like to make sure I
engage with more parents in my final weeks of practicum.
