UNC

Asheville Invitational Cross Country Meet

By: Sam Cook

The Western Carolina cross country team competed at the UNC Asheville
Invitational cross country meet Saturday Sep. 19.
Both mens and womens teams are proving themselves to have a chance at
placing in the conference meet. WCU got second overall and Asheville got first.
Sophomore Madison Goode ran a 19:07, which is a personal record for her.
It is rewarding seeing how I can perform as an individual, but it is even better
seeing the team do so well as a whole, said Goode.
Michelle Provost, who was on the cross country team all four years and
recently graduated, went to the event to support the team.
Im pumped to see what they can do! They are really pushing it to the next
level this year. I wish I could be out there with them, said Provost.
In past years, WCU has been known to have injured athletes in the climax of
the cross country season, which made it hard for both teams to be successful. The
mens and womens teams did not place in the top three teams at Conference last
year.
This year is different. Head Coach Danny Williamson is in high spirits, hoping
for the rest of the season to be injury-free and for both mens and womens teams to
continue with their success.
The next cross country meet will be at Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg,
South Carolina Oct. 3.
