Muslim History

The Muslim Religion started around 600 AD

It is based around a the prophet Muhammad
Muhammad had a vision, then he went on a journey to Mecca, where he found
a large rock
The Islam religion started around that rock, and they built a large mosque
around it
Originally, there were many idols in there, but they removed them because
they wanted to be monotheistic
In arabic, a language that they are all supposed to learn, God is Allah

The 5 Pillars of Islam

The 5 pillars of Islam are a key element to muslims.

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Shahada (Testify)
Salah (Prayer)
Seyam (Fasting)
Zakat (Charity)
Hajj (Pilgrimage)

First pillar : Shahadah(testify)

Shahada is the verbal commitment that
there is no other god than Allah, and
muhammad is his messenger.

Second Pillar: Salah(worship)

Salah is mandatory worship or prayer. During the day and
night is it the duty of every muslim, men and women to
perform 5 salats(prayers). There are 5 salats. Dawn, noon,
afternoon, sunset, and night. After each salat they must
perform Wudu(cleaning several parts of their body w/ water)

Third Pillar: Zakat(purification)

The islam religion requires people to give 2.5
percent of their yearly income to charity. This is
viewed as purifying their money so they can
spend it any way they want. It is also intended to
make sure they don't love money.

Fourth Pillar: Ramadan(fasting)

Yearly, Muslims fast for 1 month. They do this to
discipline themselves, and experience hunger. In
the mornings, they eat a large meal to make it
through the day, but they don't eat again until the
sun goes down, when they eat another large
meal.

Fifth Pillar:The Hajj(Pilgrimage)

The Fifth Pillar is going to the Hajj at

some point in your life. Each year, over 2
million muslims go there to worship God.

Beliefs
Islam is monotheistic meaning they believe in one god, Allah is their name for god.
They believe Allah is the creator of all creatures, including mankind. Muhammad is
a prophet of Islam and is the messenger of Allah, he received the word of Allah
through the Holy Spirit. The Quran is their holy book with all of their teachings and
lessons. A Muslim is a follower of the islam religion and believes in Allah and the
prophet Muhammad. They believe Allah is the only creator, and that Allah is the
ONLY god who should be worshipped. Allah does not sleep, get tired, or die.
Humans are not created in the image of Allah. Also believe that people are created
equal in the eyes of Allah.

Jihad
Common misconceptions: Jihad does not mean holy war. Jihad is not
declaring war against another religion.
What JIhad really is: moral efforts to resist all internal or external
inclination towards sin of all kinds.(islam bulletin)
Islam does not enforce or allow any kinds of extremism, or terrorism.
To terrorise or to cause fear in anyone is considered major sins in
islam.
