CHARACTERISTICS OF GERIATRIC PATIENTS IN KASSI-KASSI
PUBLIC HEALTH CENTRE MAKASSAR

Background: Added the number of elderly (seniors) in Indonesia in the period of
1990 to 2025 is estimated as the fastest growing of elderly in the world. 2007
showed that the number of elderly in Indonesia has reached 18.96 million people
(Statistics Indonesia, 2010). In 1995 to 2000, male life expectancy increased to
63.33 years and women 69 years. Public helath centre is a Technical
Implementation Unit of the District Health Office / City who were responsible for
organizing the development of health in the working area.
Methods: The study was an observational study, using the cross-sectional design
with descriptive study to determine the characteristics of geriatric patients at the
Kassi-Kassi Public Health Centre, Makassar. Using medical records as a source of
research data on June 29th to July 10th 2015. The samples were taken using total
sampling method.
Results: Based on the type of disease, the most common disease of geriatric
patients are hypertension, as many as 1.482 patients (43.70%), and cataract
disease a total of 482 people (14.21%). Based on age, geriatric patients are most
outpatient at the age of 60-74 years as many as 1.689 people (49.80%) and then at
the age of 40-59 years, there are 625 people (18.42%). By sex, most of the female
is equal to 2.282 (67.24%) while men as much as 1110 people (32.72%). Based on
the time of visits, most visited in January, as many as 335 visits (9.87%) but there
is no significant differences number of visits each month. Based on residential
address, mostly geriatric patients living in Kassi-Kassi as many as 595 patients
(9.56%).
Suggestions: All of the stakeholders must work together to create a productive
and healthy elderly by providing excellent service and a friendly elderly.
