PRODUCTION PLANNING BASED ON SALES FORECASTING

Abstract:

The company manufactures uniform quantities of products, some of which

were sold out and others, which had excess inventory at the end of every
month. So the problem was in the scheduling of productions of specific
models and not as much on capacity. In order to avoid this problem there
should be a production plan based on the sales forecasting.

This application is web based with Sales officers logging into record their
sales forecasts, the forecasts should be updated on the central database, the
system should generate reminder alerts to all Sales officers who have not
submitted their forecasts in time and for any further delay, the alerts should
be repeated every two hours until the forecasts are submitted. The CEO
should be alerted on any delayed Forecasts.

Based on the objective of contribution maximization, the system should use a

suitable linear programming methodology to arrive at the optimal production
mix for the forecasting month. The production mix would indicate the models
and the corresponding quantities to be produced in the next month based on

the forecasts.
