Raorsaron) MiCOM ALSTOM p70 POC esc ey The MiCOM ALSTOM P70 numerical busbar protection scheme provides complete protection for all voltage levels - up to extra / ultra high voltage - for all busbar configurations. Innovative techniques, including CT ‘The MICOM ALSTOM P740 busbar supervision, saturation detection and Aifferental protection scheme can be dynamic topology processing algorithms engineered to provide a centralised or offer a unique combination of security, istributed architecture It also speed and sensitivity. The substation replica supports easy maintenance, operations and processing algorithms ensure that the P7409 future expansion ofthe busbar. ‘adapts tothe dynamically changing topology The optional redundant ethernet board af te busbar, which can be displayed on reduces the cost of ownership since the any PC using the substation realtime relay is natively embedded in the switch mnamic monitoring too, board. This reduces the amount of stand alone switches needed, reducing the witing, power supply and maintenance cost, Furthermore, increasing the availabilty rate decreases the risk of electrical outages. Customer benefits + Fast fault trip (typically 11-25 ms and ‘8 ms with high speed contacts option) - Adaptable to any busbar configuration IEC 61050-8.1 and IEC 60870-5-103 compliant + Can operate with different types of CT «Programmable function keys & hotkeys «Flexible tr-colour LEDs + Fibre optic connections: + Ensure high communication speeds + Eliminate insulation problems Application units associated with the protected busbars ‘The MiCOM ALSTOM P40 numerical ‘and acting on thes signals. The technique isbased onthe numerical application of Kirchof’s law for the selective detection and lta high-speed isolation ofa faulty section ofthe busbar. ‘The analysis is carried aut inthe Central, Unit (CU) which communicates withthe Peripheral Unit (PU) to gather current information from individual circuits ‘and to implement the tripping of circuits as required. This reliable, high speed ‘communication is achieved vie a direct ‘optical connection at 2.5 Mbps. To ensure the adaptability ofthe relay to any typeof busbar configuration, the P740 is but witha universal topology processing algorithm. This algorithm determines the | ‘optimum tripping zone based on the current status ofthe plant isolators and circuit breakers. =a i" ‘The P740 employs biased differential algorithms, in which the differential current is compared with a bias current, This characteristic ensures stability of the protection for external faults, even with differing CT tolerance and etrors, which ould lead to spurious operation. CT saturation dete: To increase the security of te differential protection the biased differential elements supervised by a biased global check zone clement. This ensures stability, even under an erroneous status ofthe auxiliary contact of plant isolators and circuit breakers. ‘The MICOM ALSTOM P740 also employs CT supervision and an innovative, ura high speed, secure CT saturation detection algorithm. This ensures stability when CTs ‘become saturated, particularly under external fault conditions. This algorithm combines a simulation of the fx built up in the core of the CTs with a recursive consistence variation control. This technique can detect CT saturation in less than 2 ms. ew at aml oh + ye pentane bath Porm OF BE bh bh thd 2s ciferent crisis Dual characteristics To provide stability for severe through faults ‘and a the same time detect low current internal faults, the Pr40 is equipped with ‘dual characteristics: one phase segregated ifferential protection and another sensitive earth curent differential protection. Multiple tripping criteria ‘The P740 maintains the highest level of stability under al conditions, including hardware failure and incoherent signals applied from an external plant or generated by the power sytem. Any tripping order must be made conditional tothe simultaneous occurrence of 7 to 9 criteria: Magnitude criteria requires confirmation of ‘two simultaneous thresholds per zone: + Exceeding the bas slope characteristic (k2) «Exceeding the differential operating current threshold (1D>2) Check zone supervision ‘The zone element(s) are only permited to tp ifthe order is confirmed by the check zone element: «Exceeding the bias slope characteristic cz) + Exceeding differential operating current threshold (IDCZ>2) . = oo mi at) Signal quality criteria Continuous supervision of current No CT saturation detected + Curtent variation detected on at least two PUs (except for dead bus) circuits The P40 detects any abnormality in the current circuit by continuously monitoring it Under normal operating conditions the Time or angular citer ifereial current wil be negligible, An The measurement elements on samples analy is detected at a theshold,1D>3, are taken at 1200 He, where the first Which can beset to alarm from 20 A ‘sample is taken forthe initial measurement {and a second sample fr trip confirmation. primary, Differential current settings When switching operations are carried out in the substation, incorrect topology replicas ‘may occur. Inthis case, adiferential current appears. The differential elements of the Pao are allowed to operate only ifthe differential current reaches a threshold 1D>2 which is normally set above the highest load current. Local riteria (optional): ‘The PUs can be set to only authorise tripping if there is confirmation by local overcurrent criteria or undervltage or zero sequence ‘overvaltage. Dead zone or blind spot protection ‘The curent wansformers or the open breakers surrounding the busbars define the limits of the main zones, When a feeder
