I am very excited to be applying for the position of high school math teacher. Fleetwood Area School Districts
emphasis on diversity, community, and making school a safe place to learn is encouraging and a vision in which I
would love to take part. I believe that I will fit well in your school due to experience gained during student teaching
as well as my background in athletics and volunteer work.
My interest in mathematics integrates perfectly into my passion for teaching. I greatly enjoy working with middle
and high school students; they are in the wonderful stage of life in which they are becoming their own person and
developing a unique identity. The ability to not only enable them to further their education but also to influence their
lives is what truly draws me to the teaching profession. During my last year at Summit University, I tutored a
seventh grade student in many subjects. This one-on-one interaction allowed me to develop many different skills
such as explanation techniques, review tactics, and several differentiation and literacy strategies. My student
teaching experience in the Abington Heights School District also provided me with unique experiences, as I worked
with several gifted and talented students as well as those in a special education program.
While I have always enjoyed learning, I credit much of my work ethic to my athletic coaches and teams on which I
have participated. Having played throughout middle school, high school, and three years of college, I possess an
extensive background in basketball. I am passionate about being involved in students lives outside of the classroom,
and sports teams provide a wonderful opportunity for such involvement. Many lessons that I learned on the court
translate into the classroom setting as well, such as critical thinking, problem solving, effective communication,
teamwork, and organization. I will bring these qualities to the classroom and strive to pass them on to students.
