The reading, writing, and listening centers are grouped together because they are
considered working areas. Students working in these areas will have quiet time while completing
their work. The art and creative play centers are on the opposite side of the classroom next to the
teachers work area where she will be giving small group instruction. This will help control the
noise level and monitor behavior. The teacher desk and small group instruction table is in front of
the classroom with view to the door so I can always see who is visiting my classroom. From
where my work area sits, I will have a clear view of all work stations and will be able to monitor
students by making sure they are on task and simultaneously monitor the students on the
computers and supervise the art and create play areas. Storage is close to the teacher desk so that
I have easy access to school supplies. Shelves line the wall below all of my bulletin boards so
students have supplies near their work area to minimize distractions.
Technology has been strategically placed; students can view the smartboard/projector
from both their seats and the large group instruction rug. The computers and teachers work area
were place on the wall with the most electrical outlets.
Bulletins will be display important concepts for each center. For example, the writing
center will have class created posters with grammar and punctuations notes. Their poems, letters,
books, and writing projects will be displayed here. In the math center, many visual will be
provided such as a number line, a calendar, word problem clue words, and a clock.
The room will be lit up with lots of natural light and there will be several lamps to give
the room a sense of warmth and safety. The large library fully equipped with a sofa will give the
room the finishing touch and the feeling of comfort and relaxation.
