Lab Report: Colors
Purpose: To understand how the additive and subtractive primary colors combine to produce
different colors.
Materials: Color console, color filters [red, green, blue], magnifying glass, chromatography
paper, color makers, 500 ml beaker.
Procedure:
1. Look at the following combinations of colored lights and describe the resulting colors.
a. The resulting color that red and blue make is purple.
b. The resulting color that red and green make is brown.
c. The resulting color that blue and green make is green.
d. The resulting color that blue, red and green make is black.
2. Look at color images from any printed material (your textbook) under a magnifying
glass. Describe how each color is produced and identify the colors of each tiny dots
composing the color.
- The way each color is produced is by the multiple colorful tiny dots. The colors that
each tiny dot compose for brown is brown, yellow and black. While for the color
green the tiny dots are compose by dark and light green.
3. Wait until the different colors are separated from each dot and identify them.
Blue: purple and blue

Yellow: yellow

Red: red

Green: blue and green

Black: blue and yellow

Brown: yellow and orange

Orange: orange and yellow

Purple: purple

4. Look at a sheet of white paper through a red filter. What color is coming through? Give a
short explanation on what you see.
- The color that is coming through a sheet of white paper from a red filter is red.
a. The color that is coming through a sheet of white paper from a blue filter is blue.
b. The color that is coming through a sheet of white paper from a green filter is green.
c. The color that is coming through a sheet of white paper from combination of a blue
and green filter is aqua green.
d. The color that is coming through a sheet of white paper from the combination of all
three filters like blue, green and red is black.
5. Look at a green leaf using a green filter. What is the color of the leaf as seen through the
green filter? Explain.

- The color of the leaf that I see through the green filter is green.
a. The color of the leaf that I see through the blue filter is yellow.
b. The color of the leaf that I see through the red filter is black.
Questions/Answers:
1. In a dimly lit place such as a movie theatre, it is difficult to tell the color of your own
clothes. Explain the reason.
- The reason why it is difficult to tell the color of our own clothes in a dimly lit place
such as a movie theatre is because we humans have rods that are sensitive to dimly lit
places because of this we are not able to distinguish color.
2. If red, blue and green pigments were mixed, what would be the resulting color?
- The resulting color if mixing red, blue and green pigments is black.
3. What would be the resulting color if cyan and red lights were combined?
- The resulting color if cyan and red lights are combined is white.
