Using materials in the discovery box, students will be
able to identify the items in the balloons by touch,
identify the animal noises by sound, and identify the
animal prints by sight.

A worksheet will be provided with pictures of the five

objects in the balloon. The students will feel the
balloons and label each picture with the color of the
balloon.
Ten pictures of animal prints will be in the box. Students
will make the animal prints in play doh. Then they will
match the print with the animals name. The name and
picture will be labeled on the back so the student can
check their work.
The students will take turns with the IPad. One student
will play the 16 animal noises. The other student will
list the animals. Then they will reverse roles.
IPad apps.

Modification: A list of animals will be provided for the

sound activity. Then the student will only have to
number the animals.

Providing the Independent Practice

Activity One Touch
A worksheet will be provided with pictures of the five
objects in the balloon. The students will feel the balloons
and label each picture with the color of the balloon. The
students will then write one sentence describing what
the object felt like.
Activity Two Sound
The students will take turns with the ipad. One student
will play the 16 animal noises. The other student will list
the animals. Then they will reverse roles. Then the
students will compare their answers before using the
answer key in their box to check their answers. If the
students have different answers they should discuss why
they thought is was this animal verse the other.
Activity Three Touch
There will be ten pictures of animal prints and ten cards
with the animal name. The students will make the prints
in play doh and label them. After they complete it they
can flip the animal print cards and the animal name
cards over. If the numbers match they had the right
print.

The students will read the book and discuss how Franklin
could have used his senses while in the woods. The
students will list three ways he could have used to not
get lost.
