Advanced Weights and

Conditioning

Course Description
Advanced weights and conditioning is a
class designated to improve students
strength, cardiovascular conditioning,
and plyometrics at a higher level. This
course will allow individuals to practice
advanced skills that will benefit them in
their sport and/ or their daily life. This
class will develop skills, knowledge,
attitudes, and conditions important to
proper weight training. Strength training,
plyometrics and cardiovascular
conditioning will be emphasized daily
through a fitness plan developed and
maintain by the teacher. This course may
be repeated. Students will follow a
lifting program and will be required to
fill out their workout sheet accurately.

Bell Work:
1) Be in your designated spot in line in
the gym before the tardy bell rings.
(No Exceptions unless with a note.)
2) Students will have 5 minutes to dress

for class
3) Students will wait in the locker room
until it is time to leave. (No students are
allowed to leave the locker room or enter
the gym without the instructor.)
4) Once in the gym students will sit in
front of white board.
5) During this time we will go over the
agenda for the day.
6) Mr. Blanco will explain the activity
for the day, go over rules, procedures
etc.
*Please remove all jewelry for class, no
phones or electronic devises allowed.

Classroom Management
Plan
- Be on time.
-Take good care of equipment and locker
room facilities.
-Follow weight room rules.
-ALWAYS have a spotter!
-No gum, food, phones, electronic
devices or liquids other than water.
-Be respectful to the instructor,
substitute teacher, and other students in
the class.
-Do not use inappropriate language.
*Any Student who disobeys rules
established in the Student Handbook
throughout the semester will be subjected to
disciplinary action and loss of points.

Tardy Policy
-1st tardy: Give the student a verbal
warning.
-2nd-4th tardies: Assign the student
detention and notify the parent(s) for
each

-5th tardy: Give the student a referral those consequences are listed below
1: Recovery - 2 hours after school on a
Monday
2: Saturday School - 4 hours on a
Saturday morning
3: Suspension
10th tardy: the student will be dropped
from your class with an F
*If you are not on your designated
spot in the gym before the tardy bell
rings you will be marked tardy.
Running to your spot after the bell
rings is considered tardy.

Positive Consequences:
-Parental contact
-Individual awards
-Safe environment
-A place where learning is fun

Negative Consequences:
1st infraction=warning
2nd infraction=lunch detention and
conference
3rd infraction=lunch detention and
phone call home
4th infraction=referral
* The teacher reserves the right to skip steps
for severe infractions.

Materials
1) Black athletic shorts and a red, grey,
white or black t-shirt. WG gear. Shorts
cannot sag or be too short.
2) Athletic shoes with socks. No sandals,
slip-ons, loafers are allowed.
3) A change of clothes.
4) A lock. Students will be able to rent a

lock from the instructor for $5.00


*Please note that there is absolutely no
sharing of locker or locks.

Grading
Grades will be determined in a point
system. Total points earned divided by
total possible points.
90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
60-69% = D
59 and below = F
Quarter 1=40%
Quarter 2=40%
Cumulative Final Exam=20%.

Points:
-Points are earned for class
participation, skills tests, Strength
Training test- Cardio Vascular Fitness
test, attitude, sportsmanship, and work
ethic are all incorporated in the students
final grade.
-Students will receive 10pts. per day for
participation, being on time, dressing out
and behavior.
-If student is tardy 3pts. will be
deducted.

Participation (10 points)


(Includes filling out workout sheet)

If student does not dress out (unexcused)


they will lose 2 points from their grade
and will be required to participate in
class activities for partial points. Also,
those students who dress out and are
antagonistic toward classroom routines

(non-dress, refusal to participate or


defiant/disruptive behavior will result in
a loss of 10 points from their grade and
will be required to ride the stationary
bike during class.

Attendance:
Excused Absences
Absences will not count against
the student when they result
from one of the following:
1. The students participation
in a school related activity.
2. The student being
suspended for
misconduct.
3. Recognized religious
holidays that require the
student not to attend
school.
4. The parent/guardian must
notify the Attendance Office in
writing within 48 hours of
absence. The
parent/guardian must
indicate the date/times
and reason for the
absence. Professional
documentation or a
parent/guardian note must
accompany the student
upon his/her return to
school.
*. (Medical problems, asthma, etc.
inhaler, or any medical condition
must be reported!) Students will still
be required to participate to the best
of their ability for their daily points
Make Up Work

All students, including those


with special accommodations,
shall be permitted the same
amount of time if he/she was
absent to finish make-up work. A
request to make up points must
be made for any extended nonschool activities (i.e. funerals,
seminars, family emergencies,
etc.)
1. It is the students
responsibility to initiate
make-up scheduling for
work missed.
2. Work missed due to
documented absences:
Full credit will be given for
work made up on time as
a result of documented
absences.
3. Work missed due to
undocumented absences:
You will not be able to
make up your daily points.
4. Work missed due to suspension:
Work must be made up.
5. Make up work will be a typed
article or physical activity before
school or after school.
