NickKingwasappointedGroupCreditDirectorofTravisPerkins,oneofthelargestsupplierstothe
UKbuildingandconstructionindustry,inOctober2011.Hetookoveracreditcontrolteamofmore
than250peoplebasedinthreeseparatelocationsNorthampton,LeicesterandReading.Priorto
Nicksarrival,thecreditmanagerswereusing25differentrecruitmentagenciestohireintotheirteams
atknockdownfeesandTravisPerkinshadweakrelationshipswiththoseagenciesasaresult.The
companyreceivedalargenumberofpoorCVsforeveryvacancybecauseitsagenciesdidnothavea
goodunderstandingofeitherTravisPerkinsbusinessorthequalitiesofthecandidateswhowerelikely
tofitintoit.
Inevitably,thedifficultiesinhiringgoodstaffwereaffectingtheperformanceofTravisPerkinscredit
controldepartment.SoNickwasdeterminedtoestablishamoreefficientrecruitmentprocessby
partneringwithanexpertagencythatwasaleaderinthefieldofcreditcontrol.Hewantedanagency

andeachofhis14creditmanagers,aswellastheirreports,sothatsheunderstoodhowtheteamswere
setup,whattheirrequirementswereandwhichsortsofpersonalitieswerelikelytofitin.Shewanted
toensurethattheybelievedinthepartnershipandtrustedherguidanceandexpertisewhenitcameto
recruitingnewstaff.Thiswasntalwaysaquickandeasyprocess,butCharmainenowhasstrong
relationshipswithallofNickslinemanagersandisinregularcontactwiththem.
CharmaineandCeinwenalsopresentedatNicksinternalUKcreditmanagementmeeting,wherethey
explainedhowtheycouldleverageHaysnationalexpertisewithinthecreditmanagementindustryto
deliveranexcellentlocalservicetoTravisPerkins.TheygavealivedemonstrationofHaysexclusive
InstituteofCreditManagement(ICM)creditcontrolskillstest.HaysCreditManagementwas
subsequentlyaddedtoTravisPerkinspreferredsupplierlistforallcreditcontrolvacancies(andlater
forvacanciesinallspecialismsnationwide).
SinceOctober2011,CharmainehasworkedcloselywithNickandhiscreditmanagerstofillrolesthat
arisewithinTravisPerkinscreditcontroldepartment.
PartneringwithHaysCreditManagementhasmadeabigdifferencetohowTravisPerkinshiresintoits
creditcontroldepartment.Becauseitscreditmanagershavestrongworkingrelationshipswithone
