Tasks and Project Completed During This Logs Time Frame:


1. Monday was Labor Day, so my official start wasnt until Wednesday. It was my
first week, and my so my first task was to shadow the head financial officer,
Ginger, while she worked on billing for the church. I was also trained on using
the phone and was given various log-ins and an email address specific to the
organization.
2. On Friday, I got to shadow the head media and production administrator. She
introduced me to the programs used for the bulletin and the various power point
and videos used throughout the worship service and sermon. I helped edit
everything and see what other sites were used for the various media required for
the church.
3. I was given an ongoing project of reading and editing the churchs employee
handbook. I am to research what other churches include in their handbook and
give my suggestions as to what would be beneficial to include or delete.
Challenges and How They Were Overcome and Outcomes:
Challenge: I was given a lot of information to remember was being introduced to a new
system that they use to store their accounting and membership information.
Resolution: I took notes as necessary and have a running list of the various tasks I would
be responsible for.
Result: It worked out well, I feel like I was able to retain the information better after I
wrote it down.
Challenge: I was given the task of reconciling the various bank statements they had and
the numbers wouldnt balance out.
Resolution: I alerted Ginger and we worked together to find the error.
Result: We found out there was a mistake when someone entered the previous
information so she was able to fix the problem.
Accomplishment(s):
I was nervous about all the different responsibilities that I was going to be given, but I feel
that I was able to finish all my tasks well and in a timely manner. We all finished
everything were supposed to get through for the week without any melt downs.
Question(s):
Im curious to see if there is an easier way to input the financials, however, this is just
something that would need to be addressed as I get to know the system better.

Tasks and Project Completed During This Logs Time Frame:


1. On Monday I was able to do the rounds with Ginger and see how the church
guards the tithes and offerings as well as view how we set up for the counters. I
was able to use their system to check attendance for their various groups. I
started working on the employee handbook. I also helped Ginger finish the bank
reconciliations.
2. I finished reading and editing the employee handbook. I am to meet with Angie
and talk about the errors I found and suggestions on what I believe need to be
changed or added.
3. I helped with paying the bills and filing the receipts. I was given the task of
changing old keys to new rings and transferred to the key box. I also helped stuff
bulletins for Sunday.
Challenges and How They Were Overcome and Outcomes:
Challenge: Bank reconciliations were not matching up.
Resolution: Went through each charge on the bank statement and compared them with
the charges that were recorded in the system.
Result: I noticed that it was a positive charge so we were able to find the inconsistency
much more quickly and changed the incorrect information.
Challenge: I was getting kind of discouraged on Friday because they had me doing a lot
of busy work. Angie was out today so I was just supposed to help Kristin and Angie.
Resolution: I changed my mindset and reminded myself that that type of work is also
important and that I would be helping the staff out tremendously by completing it for
them.
Result: I finished all of the tasks in a timely manner and was able to make suggestions
as I saw fit that would help speed up the process for the next time.
Accomplishment(s): Finished working on the employee handbook, Im supposed to meet
up with Angie on Monday and fill her in on my thoughts and suggestions.

Question(s):
Im going to ask for a little more responsibility for this upcoming week. I feel that I am
not being utilized to my full potential and I think there is a lot more I can help accomplish
if Im given the opportunity.

1.

Met up with Angie to discuss the Employee handbook and go over my


recommendations. I helped input attendance and manage the phone lines. Turned
in money for ministries and upcoming events.
2.Helped with bank reconciliations. Reviewed meeting minutes from 2011-2015 and
highlighted necessary components concerning the nominating committee. Given
the responsibility to create a binder for various meeting minutes.
3.I was put in charge of the churchs Facebook page. I also edited a paper that was to
be printed out for the senior adults ministry, helped stuff lesson binders, and
come up with ideas for the FB page.
Challenges and How They Were Overcome and Outcomes:
Challenge: I have never written or edited an employee handbook before.
Resolution: I found a lot of samples online that I was able to refer to and compare the
general information that was being given to employees.
Result: We will see what Angie thinks on Monday, but I think that the suggestions and
edits I made will be proven useful.
Challenge: I was put in charge of the Facebook page and Ive never ran a business
Facebook page before.
Resolution: I sat with the production manager and she walked me through the
differences, showed me where I could find files to post, and gave me a binder that
specifies how to create good Facebook posts and what times to post them.
Result: I feel confident that this will be good for the church, Social media is so important
and the fact they are not utilizing it is concerning.
Accomplishment(s):
I think I had a good idea with testimonial Tuesday. This should increase engagement and
boost the FB pages utility.

Question(s):
Is there any way to create a google drive for teachers who want to use it as an easier
option to replace the physical binders that are used for attendance?

Worked on payroll and got better acquainted with the Shelby system. Shadowed
the person in charge of the youth ministry to help while shes out next week.
Worked on Facebook posts and went through the testimonies available on the
website. Helped with phones and the front desk while the head receptionist was
out.
2. Worked on Fb scheduling, helped music ministry with licensing information.
Helped Ginger with Accounts Payable, and Jason, the Youth minister, with his
lesson plan.
3. I worked on FB strategy and posts. I scheduled posts through the weekend and
replied with various people who interacted with the churchs FB page. I also
helped stuff bulletins and helped the production manager create the wording for
an event.
Challenges and How They Were Overcome and Outcomes:
Challenge: I wasnt given direct instructions on what to do on Monday because Angie
was out.
Resolution: I asked people what they needed help with and started my own projects.
Result: I feel that I accomplished everything that I could considering the circumstances.
Accomplishment(s):
The Fb page has been seeing much more activity since I was given the responsibility, Im
hoping to have more engagement and interaction with posts to come.

Question(s):
I dont feel that I am being utilized to the best of my ability, I would like to ask if there is
more responsibility that I could take on.

I was in charge of editing and reviewing various testimonies of church members


to post on the churchs website and Facebook page. I did rounds with Ginger and
helped set up the table for the counters. I helped Courtney, the head of the
childrens ministry, with attendance and inputting information from the previous
Sunday.
2. I was given the responsibility to edit the churchs website and update information.
I also had to email some church members to update information that was given to
me.
3. Worked on the Facebook page and scheduled posts throughout the weekend. I
helped with the Sunday bulletin and was given the task to organize Deacon
meeting minutes.
Challenges and How They Were Overcome and Outcomes:
Challenge: My manager was out for the week; she had to go to a retreat and gave me
loose instructions on what I should do.
Resolution: I finished all the tasks I was given and took it upon myself to find more ways
to help everyone out.
Result: It was very productive.
Challenge: Figuring out how to improve the Facebook insights.
Resolution: I read a bunch of articles and reviewed the information and insights given to
me by Facebook to see what posts were getting the most responses.
Result: Every insight improved and there was more engagement this week than I had
ever seen.
Accomplishment(s):
Everything on the Churchs Facebook insights have improved since I was given the
responsibility. Engagement, visits, likes, and organic reach have improved by about 40%.

Question(s):
How should we angle twitter in order to get the most usefulness out of the social media
outlet?

1.

Worked on bank reconciliations and FB posts for the week. I finished the
Deacons meeting minutes binder project as well as the administrative meting
minute binder assignment.
2. Helped the production manager cut and prepare documents for the Fall Fun Fest
and went to pick up some supplies for the Ladies Brunch. I also helped with the
receptionist position
3. I worked on the employee handbook and made a page of suggestions as to how I
feel the handbook would be more complete and comprehensible. This required
going through the entire current handbook and making notes on each section of
how I think it could be improved, making all those suggestions into a Word
document, and finding examples of each suggestion in other churches handbooks
that are available online. I also scheduled FB posts for the day and weekend.
Challenges and How They Were Overcome and Outcomes:
Challenge: Had to go pick up some supplies and the store didnt have what I needed on
hand.
Resolution: I thought it would be a better idea to order the correct number of items
online instead of overspending in the store.
Result: We ended up ordering online and saved about $30.
Challenge: Initially, I was told that I would have to retype the employee handbook
because it was only available in PDF.
Resolution: After talking to Angie, I told her to send me the PDF and I would try to
convert it that way.
Result: I was able to convert it and it saved me a few days of work; the handbook is
pretty hefty.
Accomplishment(s):
I finished the employee handbook project a lot quicker than I thought I would. Since I
already kept some sample handbooks, finishing the suggestions should be pretty quick as
well.
Question(s):
Is there anything specific youd like me to focus on for suggestions for the handbook? I
have a few, but I dont know how detailed youd like it to be.

I worked on the churchs website, learned how to create a sub-page within a page
and edited a testimony that was to be posted on both FB and the website. I also
reached out to the community for prayers regarding the Bastrop fire and the fatal
crash here in Cedar Park on Sunday.
2. I created FB and scheduled FB posts through the week. I also worked on an excel
sheet that is for trustee nominations. I also helped the financial advisor decipher
the differences between current and potential insurance coverages.
3. I helped get a meeting prepared and organized. I helped the head receptionist with
her lunch shift while she was away. I also helped the student minister with
organizing his students lesson binder and helped publication with Sundays
bulletin.
Challenges and How They Were Overcome and Outcomes:
Challenge: Figuring out excel sheets, its been a while since I have used it and was
kinda rusty about how to use the various formulas.
Resolution: I asked my manager exactly what she wanted, and then used the formulas as
well as possible.
Result: I ended up remembering everything and I needed to and I got it all done in an
extremely timely manner.
Accomplishment(s):
I was happy that I was able to help my manager with the various formulas necessary for
the project at hand. She was even rustier than I was, so it was nice being able to be used
for that.
Question(s):
I dont feel like Im being used to the best of my potential, is there anything else that I
could be helpful with?

Im helping the financial advisor with doing rounds, which is just going around
to the various donation drop-off stations around the church and help count and
deposit the money. I also helped with creating an excel sheet to help understand
the differences between the current and potential insurance coverages.
2. I finished the excel sheet for Ginger so she can easily review the differences
between their current insurance coverage and a new one being offered. I made an
additional excel sheet for Angie and the First Impression Ministry that detailed
volunteers and their contact information.
3. I made posts for FB throughout the week and weekend, and I picked up some
items that the First Impression Ministry needed. I also helped with publications
and the Sunday bulletin.
Challenges and How They Were Overcome and Outcomes:
Challenge: The insurance information was scattered and I didnt really know how to
compare the two that were up for question.
Resolution: I went through page by page and pulled out every coverage, made an excel
sheet comparing the similar ones and added the others at the bottom.
Result: It was very helpful to Ginger and she had a meeting with the insurance provider
to discuss the results.
Accomplishment(s):
I wasnt sure if I was doing what was expected of me for the excel sheet, but I was given
praise that it was very helpful and organized well.

Question(s): I feel like Im getting stuck doing mundane work, is there any project that I
could use some of my skills to be of assistance?

1. I helped Ginger doing rounds and helped the counting team gather all the
information on the tithes and offerings that were to be deposited and went to the
bank to deposit said monies. It was a helpful experience because I got to see how
they did their checks and balances to ensure safe keeping of the money.
2. I helped sort through the Fall Fun Fest forms and helped with Fall Fun Fest
(Halloween alternative event).
3. Made FB posts for the weekend and helped publications with the Sunday bulletins.
I reviewed the insights of FB to see the improvements from when I started to take
over the page and they have been quite significant.
Challenges and How They Were Overcome and Outcomes:
Challenge: When counting the money, the numbers werent matching up correctly.
Resolution: Went through each section and compared the various numbers with each
other.
Result: Two checks were stuck together, we found the mistake and corrected it.
Accomplishment(s):
Learned the steps and procedures to the donation counting and depositing.

1. Did rounds with Ginger and met with the counting team to help count Sundays
tithes and offerings. I also helped the financial advisor sort through credit card
statements and receipts.
2. I worked on the summary and editing of the quarterly business meeting minutes. I
also helped the head receptionist with her duties.
3. I helped to organize the study item closet and update the excel sheet and made FB
posts for the week.
Challenges and How They Were Overcome and Outcomes:
Challenge: I was given the responsibility to update the study item closet and the
previous excel sheet was not put in order, there were items that were not listed, and there
were items that were under the wrong name or placed in the wrong area of the closet.
Resolution: I went through the entire list, fixed the problem areas, and resorted the excel
sheet so that they were listed properly.
Result: Everything was good and Allison thanked me for taking the time out to fix it.
Challenge: During the weekend, there was the tragedy that occurred in France.
I wanted to make a post on FB calling for prayer, but I wasnt sure if I should take the
liberty to do so.
Resolution: I went ahead and found a proper graphic and made a post.
Result: The post was very well received and got a lot of engagement and was praised by
my superior for taking initiative.

Accomplishment(s):
Updated and fixed the current inventory structure of the literature closet.

1. I did rounds with Ginger, set up the counting teams table, and retrieved all the
money from the collection areas.
2. I made a number of FB images that contained thanksgiving scriptures. I also
helped the head receptionist with her duties.
3. We helped facilitate Operation Christmas Child donations, as of now, over 100
shoe boxes have been donated!

Challenges and How They Were Overcome and Outcomes:


Challenge: There were issues with balancing the donation counts.
Resolution: I suggested that it was most likely misread numbers from the envelopes.
Result: I was correct and the issue was solved.
Challenge: We didnt have any events coming up that needed to be posted on FB. I had
a hard time committing to making one post a day as is suggested for businesss FB pages.
Resolution: I created images of scripture and asked engaging questions that were fitting
for the season.
Result: I still didnt make a post for every day of the week, but I only missed one.
Accomplishment(s):
Ive never made a meme before, so it was an accomplishment for me to create one that
was popular with others as well.

1. I didnt have very many things to do today; it was actually my last day so I ended

up just finishing up a few projects and helped cover Allison and Mollys tasks.
2. I made sure the counters were set up to count Sundays giving.
Challenges and How They Were Overcome and Outcomes:
Challenge: I had to say goodbye to some of the nicest people I ever worked with.
Resolution: I told myself that this happens, and that Id still see them at church events.
Result: I had a great internship and I am so blessed to have been a part of this church
staff!
Accomplishment(s):
I was able to immerse myself into a new work environment that I have never been in
before and see the other side of ministry.
