Lesson Details
Lesson Title
Math with graphs
Content Are: Math
Grade Level: Second

UBD Stage I: Identify Desired Results

Lesson Objectives
1) Students should be able to collect data from other students
2) Students should be able to graph and organize the data they recieved

Standards
PA Standards: C.C.2.6.2.B: Organize and display data using pictures, tallies, charts, bar graphs and
pictographs
ISTE Standards:
1a. Apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, product, or processes

Enduring Understandings
The students should be able to know how to collect data and use it in a graph.
Essential Questions
How do we measure length?

UBD Stage II: Determine Acceptable Evidence

Assessment Tasks
Formal: Have the students make their own graph using the data they collected, then

collect it.
Informal: Have the students copy an example of a graph down.

Rubric/Scoring Criteria: Will be included with assignment

UBD Stage III: Plan Learning Experiences and Instruction

Materials and Resources
1) I will need a smart board so the students can copy the practice graph down.
2) I will also need graphing paper for the students so they can draw the graph

3) Make paper that has candy bars name on it so the students can make tally marks on it
Procedures and Content
1) .
T: In class today we will be learning about graphs, raise your hand if you know what a graph is?
S: *Raise their hands*
2)
T: We will start off by making a practice graph so you know how to make one. Now who wants to give
us a topic for the graph?
S: *Raise their hands* And one of them will answer.
3) T: *Put the practice graph on the smart board and show the students how to make a graph* Ok now
class I want you to get up and move around the room asking your fellow classmates what their favorite
candy is and make tally marks by each candy bar. (Pass out papers that have candy bars on them so
the students can put tally marks near them)
S: Whats your favorite candy bar? * they ask other students while putting tally marks*
4) T: Ok class have a seat. Now lets draw the graph using the data you collected. Copy down everything
that I write down on the graph
S: *Writes down everything*
5) T: Ok class there is how you would make a graph. Now you can color in the bars any color you want.
S: *They color the bars in*

If Time Activities
I would pass out papers and give the students topics and data collected and have them create their
own graph using the data.
Lesson Reflection
Reflecting back on the lesson I feel that the students had a great time learning how to make and collect data
for the graph, because they could be apart of the procedure of collecting data. The students could focus more
on the lesson if they were involved in it.
