Office of the Nurse Executive 3601 S. 6th Avenue (3-118) Tucson, Arizona 85723 Dear Barbara OConnor, My name is Bryanna Barcelo and I am writing in regards to your register nurse position opening. I will be a new graduate of the University of Arizona College of Nursing in December. The college of nursing has provided me with the opportunity to have hundredths of clinical hours in different settings including intensive care units, medical surgical units, step down units, and telemetry units. Furthermore, I did a five-week preceptrorship at Banner Medical Center in an intermediate care abdominal surgical and oncology transplant unit, where I have gained tremendous amount of experience with the pre-operative and post-operative care of a variety of diagnosis of critically ill patients. My extensive clinical experience has thought me time management, critical thinking, and organization skills, which I know will help me while adjusting to any new setting. In addition I have experience working as a student nurse tech, which has installed in me the solid foundation of nursing and gave me an insight into the working of direct patient care. In addition, it has developed in me a great passion for caring for the Veterans. Furthermore, I completed the 400-hour Veterans Affairs Learning Opportunity Residency (VALOR) on a step down unit. During my 10 week VALOR experience I was able to care for patients of a high acuity and learned how to manage and prioritize patient care. The program improved my clinical judgment, critical thinking, and nursing skills by providing me with learning opportunities on the units, classrooms and observation of a competent preceptor. Furthermore I completed my white belt training and implemented my own evidence based quality improvement project for the step down unit. I hope to implement a new project if hired as a registered nurse. My experience has installed in me a passion for nursing and a desire to learn and challenge myself. My experience has provided me with a solid foundation and the necessary knowledge to transition to any new setting. My experience has also installed in me a desire for caring for the critically ill Veteran and the knowledge necessary to do so, for these reasons my preference for a unit to work on would be step down unit or intensive care unit. However my goal is to serve the veteran population and to continue to learn and grow as a nurse therefore I would be honored to serve the Veterans in any setting. Thank you for considering me for this position. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to talk more about my desire to work as a registered nurse at the Veterans Hospital. Sincerely, Bryanna Barcelo
