Integrating smartboards into classroom teaching increases student engagement

and success.
Min, Kathryn., & Siegel, Christine. (2011). Integration of SMART board
technology and effective teaching. imanagers Journal on School Educational
Technology, 7(1), 38-47. Retrieved
from:http://digitalcommons.fairfield.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?

article=1054&context=education-facultypubs
In order to increase attention span of our students, teachers need more
technological devices. Students are engaged with some type of technology at
most of their time and lose their attention in instruction if it doesnt have any
similar items at instruction. The article mentions about a study which compares
instruction in math and science classes with smart board and without smart
board. The results of the study indicate a significant increase at student attention

to the instruction with smart board.

Smart boards usage is very effective with science, social studies and Math

classes as they involve visuals, and visuals make learning easier and fun. Smart
boards have lesson templates for different classes which makes planning the
lesson and using smartboard convenient.

skills?
All of harmony School of Fine Arts and Technology students take technology
classes which are paced according to age, needs, and grade. The curriculum is
unique to Harmony Public Schools and paced by central office.

Describe goals and an implementation plan, with annual activities, to address

Internet Safety and the appropriate and ethical use of technology in the
classroom.
1 How will technology be used to create more powerful learning
experiences to improve student academic achievement?
Smart Boards which are interactive whiteboards give a lot of flexibility to teachers.
This tool enables teacher to bring a very rich variety of materials to the classroom.
Tailoring the instruction according to different learning styles of students become

as easy as delivering instruction with traditional whiteboards. Being an interactive

tool includes students in classroom activities, increase student engagement and
participation during instruction. Teachers can use this tool as a constant
assessment method with the help of applications. Connection to online
information and retrieving those information while teaching will also help students
to practice how to access online information and how to choose reliable
resources. Teachers can integrate other tools such as microscope, document
camera, and such easily to share any image with students. All of these capacities
will bring a wide range of attention and learning in the classroom.

2 How are teachers using online communication technologies,

including but not limited to social networking and instant
messaging?
The teachers use emails as the main method of communication in campus. Also
the school has Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram accounts and
encourage teaches to join and use these tools actively. All of the teachers have
access to these tools.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMPONENT

The Plan must have a professional development strategy to ensure that staff
understands how to use these new technologies to improve education services
(Answer at least 2 questions for each subsection below)

Summary of the teachers' and administrators' current technology proficiency and

integration skills and needs for professional development.
1 How does your LEA regularly assess teachers and administrators

personal technology proficiency skills?

Assessing technology proficiency usually takes place though observing staff task
completion. Usually staff can complete tasks which are essential duties such as
checking emails, taking attendance, updating gradebook regularly, uploading
lesson plans, monitoring students progress at online resources and such. The
administrators follow up if teachers completion of these tasks and assess their

usage of technology at these basic skills.

2 Do teachers have the classroom management strategies to work

with the amount of technology actually available in the classrooms?

Technological tools, which teachers currently use in the classroom, are providing
advantage at classroom management. Students are engaged with the tools and
the colors, music, action of these tools and cause less disturbance and
distraction.

Describe goals and an implementation plan, with annual activities, for providing
professional development opportunities based on your LEA needs assessment
data and the Curriculum Component of the plan.
1 What LEA board policies will be or have been developed to
implement Internet safety instruction?
The school developed a security blocking system for the chrome books facilitated
for student practice and academic development. Students are allowed to access
to some certain websites listed in the system.
2 How are students using online communication technologies,
