We are at the threshold of another Christmas. It is our custom

to prepare for the Birth of Christ through Fasting and Penance
and Prayer for 25 days. The color of the decorations and
Liturgical vestments is purple/violet. This color has been
traditionally the color of fasting, Penance and Prayer. The
only difference between Advent and Lent is that during Lent
Fasting and abstinence is stipulated, whereas during
Christmas, we are asked to voluntarily do whatever we can to
clean and prepare our minds and hearts for the celebration of
the Birth of Christ.
In the First Reading from Jeremiah, we are promised a New
Shoot from the clan of Jesse and David. In the Second Reading
we are told by Saint Paul that Christ will strengthen us
spiritually as we confront our own internal struggles and the
external threats that we face daily. In the Gospel we are
assured by Jesus that His coming is certain and that there will
be signs to indicate the time of his return. We must be vigilant
and beware of false prophets and our own inclination to take
things lightly.
During Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year, all the
shopping Malls are full of people taking advantage of bargains
and buying gifts and other things that they think are needed
for their pleasure and happiness. As Catholic Christians, let us
not forget to prepare ourselves well for Christmas. Let us not
forget that Christ is the Reason for the Season. It is not
happy holidays. It was, it is and it will always be for us:
HAPPY CHRISTMAS.

MAY THE LORD STRENGTHEN

YOUR HEARTS.

SAINT OF THE WEEK

SAINT CATHERINE OF SWEDEN

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Thank you/Mahalo

Saint Andrew

A very sincere THANK YOU to all the members of the Four

Parish Choirs and Volunteers of the many Ministries of our
Parish for the excellent turn out and participation in our
Thanksgiving Mass. We shall continue to praise and thank
God for all His Blessings upon us. A very special Thank you
to the Hospitality Ministry. Even though you were ready to
allow them to pick- and- go the fact that many people
remained back shows how happy they were to fellowship.
Congratulations. Our next Hospitality will be on Christmas
Eve and Christmas Day. During Advent, we do not have
Hospitality Ministry, as also during Lent.

Patron of Fishermen and Greece

Feast Day November 30
Andrew was St. Peters brother, and was
called with him. "As [Jesus] was walking by
the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers,
Simon who is now called Peter, and his
brother Andrew, casting a net into the
sea; they were fishermen. He said to
them, Come after me, and I will make you
fishers of men. At once they left their
nets and followed him" (Matthew 4:18-20).
Legend has it that Andrew preached the
Good News in what is now modern Greece
and Turkey and was crucified at Patras.
We humbly entreat Thy majesty, O Lord, that as the
blessed Apostle Andrew was once a teacher and
ruler of Thy Church: so he may be a constant
advocate for us before Thee. Through our Lord Jesus
Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee
in the unity of the Holy Ghost, one God, world
without end. Amen

Today's world needs Christians who truly understand

that faith gives us hope and
victory in the midst of any
and all difficulties.
Taking this even further, today's world needs Catholics
who truly understand that
going to Mass means having
faith in miracles -- especially
the
miraculous
transformation of bread and wine
into the body and blood of
Christ. Are you changed by
the presence of Christ in the
Eucharist? If so, then after
you exit the church, others
see evidence of this faith -right?
There's a difference between
"knowing" the truths of our
faith and authentically living
these truths.
What prayer requests have
you made in which you're
still waiting for God to provide his help? When you offer them to Jesus during the
prayers of Mass, do you feel
the hopefulness that comes
from faith?

During the consecration of the Eucharist, if we do not

have faith in God's ability to change bread and wine
into Christ -- an ability that does not rely on the how
holy the priest is -- we won't have faith to recognize
that Jesus is ministering to us in the Eucharist.
In todays Gospel reading, Jesus speaks of his Second Coming, but we can also relate it to our daily lives
today. We all have new tribulations looming in the fu-

ture, unknown and unpredictable.

Thats life on earth! And Jesus wants
to help us through them. Faith in this
gives us hope and victory.
However, when our focus is on our
troubles instead of on Christ, we are
not living in faith. Jesus warned us
about our hearts becoming spiritually
drowsy. This is when we lose faith.
We forget to remain centered in
Christ. We neglect to listen for the
guidance of the Holy Spirit. But
when we ask Jesus to restore us to
a life of faith, we become vigilant,
expectant, and aware that we can
rely on God to help us in whatever
comes our way.
Our tribulations makes us fearful.
Faith gives us reasons to hope in
Jesus and to live in joy instead of
fear. It's not easy! It takes conscious
effort. But spiritual drowsiness is a
miserable way to live.

Reflect & Discuss:

1. What are you waiting for from
Jesus?
2. How will you use the Season of
Advent to grow in faith by noticing the loving, generous, merciful
activities of God?
3. What are your favorite ways to
prepare for Christmas?
4. How do you make Advent a season of hope and a time of growing in faith?
