Stephanie Gordon
Goal no. 1

Action Plan

What will you accomplish?

(Goal statement)

I will learn and become competent in knowledge of every

brass instrument.

What does it look like when youve

accomplished your goal?
I.e., How will you know you have achieved
your goal?
What are the indicators of success or
progress? (Assessment)
Rationale:
Why is it important?

I will have achieved my goal

when I can successfully know
the care, fingerings and
transposition of the brass
instruments.

Pre-assessment:
What assets and/or liabilities currently exist?
How can you take advantage of your assets
and minimize your liabilities?
Who or what can help?

Action plan:
How will you accomplish your goal?
What will you do?
By when?

Goal no.

Timeline:
(By when?)
December 18, 2015

This is important because I have not had the opportunity

to learn about brass instruments specifically. I feel as
though I do not know much about them and I want to
gain more knowledge so I can successfully teach those
instruments.
Assets
Liabilities
1. Access to teachers to help me
with achieving this goal.
2. Access to brass instruments to
practice on.
3. Knowledge of wind and
percussion instruments.
4. Knowledge of transpositions
of brass instruments.
5. Peers to further my
understanding.
Actions/steps to be taken
(What will you do?):
1. Begin with one brass
instrument to start.
2. Learn fingerings for two
different instruments.
3. Learn proper care of
instruments.
4. Practice individual
instruments.
5. Learn all fingerings.

Action Plan

1. Main experience
only on percussion.
2. Little knowledge
of all wind
instruments.

What will you accomplish?

(Goal statement)

Incorporate more meaningful technology into the band

classes.

What does it look like when youve

accomplished your goal?
I.e., How will you know you have achieved
your goal?
What are the indicators of success or
progress? (Assessment)
Rationale:
Why is it important?

When I have accomplished my

goal I will have solid evidence
of the KSA that coincides with
technology.

Pre-assessment:
What assets and/or liabilities currently exist?
How can you take advantage of your assets
and minimize your liabilities?
Who or what can help?

Action plan:
How will you accomplish your goal?
What will you do?
By when?

Timeline:
(By when?)
The end of the fall
semester.

This is important to include in the band

classroom because band has been taught the
same way for a long time; it is a traditional
way of teaching. I believe incorporating
technology in the class will open up new
opportunities for the students as well as the
teacher. You can have more visual aids, ways
to submit assignments, helpful tutorials, etc.
It is difficult for a band teacher to address
every fingering or note issue in the class.
Technology can help to do some teaching at
home with simple videos and other means of
instruction. I believe technology will help
advance students in the band class to
become more competent 21st Century
Learners.
Assets
Liabilities
1. Knowledge of technology.
2. A drive to incorporate new
strategies in the classroom.
3. Many colleagues and
associates who have experienced
and succeeded with this.
4. Many new ideas and resources
available for technology.
5. School already has
implemented many means of
technology.

1. Students may not

have access at home.
2. Students could be
uninterested in new
ways of teaching in
band class.
3. Not extremely tech
savvy.
4. Finding new
assignments for band
that would be
engaging.

Actions/steps to be taken
(What will you do?):
1. Determine what technology is
accessible at the school.
2. Determine what the students
have accessible at home for
technology.
3. Have an action plan of
assignments, strategies to
incorporate technology.

Timeline:
(By when?)
1. End of August
2. First week of
school.
3. Ongoing
4. Each class (when
applicable).
5. Ongoing

4. Inform students how

technology will be used.
5. Include it in class as often as
possible.
