We have 25 iPads, 28 laptops, two Macbooks, a video camera and a DSLR
camera. All of this equipment is ageing and ideally would be replaced within the coming 12-18 months. What is lacking in comparison to other leading language schools is a dedicated language lab. Teachers ICT skills The central role of ICT in the teaching centre leads to an additional administrative burden on teachers that few are well equipped to handle. This leads to: poorly presented digital documents (handouts, flipcharts) poor communication within the centre email is the preferred channel of management, but many teachers struggle to manage their emails and messages a preoccupation with using ICT at the expense of meaningful classroom interaction Future needs Blended learning will require considerable training in order to be successful. English both have a rudimentary blended component. Teachers need training if this is to be a success. Recommendations Make specific reference to the centrality of ICT at the teaching centre when advertising vacancies and at interview stagger the induction process so that the initial induction sessions we currently give are supplemented by follow-up sessions dedicated to digital professionalism, e.g. one month into teachers contracts appoint a senior teacher ICT to
work with heads of product to develop a coherent strategy for blending
courses project manage the implementation and subsequent development of a substantial blended component coordinate the work of e-moderators and classroom teachers
