What is Independent Study Mentorship (ISM)?

The Independent Study Mentorship course is designed for students wishing to mentor
an adult professional in a chosen career. With the mentor of my choice, I must create a
unique plan of study and receive individual instruction and at the end of the course
create a unique product of a collegiate level and present it to my mentor for a final grade.
The topic of study I have chosen to focus on is Speech-Language Pathology.

Course Requirements include:

Create an in-depth study in an area of interest
Document a minimum of 2-3 hours of mentorship activitity each week
Complete a journal entry at the end of every week documenting your
experiences
Complete an ISM professional portfolio showcasing all assignments
completed throughout the course
Complete all required assignments
Mid-term presentation
Develop a final product and presentation at the collegiate level to
present to a panel of graders.

Professional Portfolio
The purpose of this website is to showcase all my work
throughout the semester document my progress and
experiences and provide vital information for my
final project.

Product
For my final product I created an articulation

screener of my own and made a template to test

students.
I was able to get permission from 3 girls of different
ages and have a video of Mrs. Crain demonstrating
how to test a child with this trial test.

How will product affect me later on

I hope to get better experience on the profession and

help me determine what classes I will take in college

Overall my idea of different types of therapy were all
similar in the end. It depends on the child and their
needs of speech and their preference of learning in
the classroom that is most effective.
