    suggestionsforrepairingtheworld,madeupthemajorityofDr.Farmersspeeches.Whenyou
    plugintheissueofclimatechangetoDr.Farmersequationforcreatingabetterworld,the
    piecesfittogetherquitenicely.
    First,weapplytheideaofworkingcooperativelytosolveanissue,totheissueofclimate
    change.Thisidea,ofcombattingclimatechangeasacohesivepopulation,andnotagroupof
    similarfactions,isapopularproposedsolution.Climatechangeisfartoocomplicated,tooglobal
    andtoodivisivetobesolvedwithoutthesupportofadedicatedmovementofpeople.Thethreat
    ofclimatechangeneedstoberecognizedbythemajorityofpeoplebeforeitcanbesolved.It
    startsatthedomesticlevel.IftheAmericanpeoplecollectivelycalledforanenergyrevolution,
    thegovernmentwouldrespond.Thatswhentheissuemovestothegloballevel.Iftheleading
    industrialcountriesoftheworldtogethervowedtoconverttorenewableformsofpower,the
    issueofclimatechangewouldbesolved.Eachoftheselevelsarepoweredbypeopleworking
    togethertosolveaproblem.Thisisthepowerofpartnership.
    ThesecondideaofDr.Farmersformulaforsolvingearthsproblem,aresponsibilityfor
    service,requiresustolookatclimatechangeinadifferentlight.Climatechangehasahardtime
    gainingattentionfromeveryonebecauseclimatechangeisnotyetaffectingeveryone.Theplaces
    mostaffectedbyclimatechangeareplaceslikeBangladeshandtheGreatBarrierReef.Rising
    sealevelshavelefttheimpoverishedpeopleofBangladeshwithouthomes,andwithnowhereto
    go.Theinfluxofcarbondioxideintoouroceanshasdissolvedthecoralthatmakeupsheltersfor
    countlessspeciesofmarinelife.Climatechangecan,andshould,belookedatasawelfareissue.
    Makinganefforttoabatetherisingsealevelsandacidificationoftheoceanishelpingbeings
    whoareinneedofhelp.
    Climatechangeishardtoactonbecauseattimesitcanseemdauntingandfutile.The
    projectionsforthefutureeffectsofourclimatepaintapicturethat,whilerealistic,canbequite
    depressing.Whileitstemptingtoacceptourhorrifyingfateandsimplygoonwithourlives
    withoutpayingattentiontoourenvironmentalimpact,Dr.Farmerstressesthatweshouldntbe
    afraidtocreatechange.Theissuesofclimatechange,justliketheissuesofhealthcare
    highlightedbyDr.Farmerinhisbook,cannotbeleftforanotherday.Thelivesofbillionsof
    peoplewillbeaffectedbyclimatechange.Althoughtheseverityoftheissueofclimatechangeis
    stilldebatedtothisday,thatdoesntmeanweshouldbehesitanttoimagineabetterworldwhere
    climatechangeisadefeatedissue.Everyproposalofasolutionwillhavedoubters,butthat
    shouldnotkeepusfromtryingtocomeupwithsolutions.
