fully detailed requirements and sources of requirements for a specific media production
TASK

and complete the following task.
You will need to show an excellent understanding of the requirements for the proposed
production and will be able to explain fully why each element is required.
You will give detailed explanations of how these requirements will be sourced and give full
consideration to codes of practice and regulatory issues.
From the table below you need to explain why each element was important to your chosen
production and detail how you would source them.

Sourcing

Importance
It is important to have finances in place before production starts, as every
producer needs to pay for Equipment used such as Cameras, tripods, green
screen, lighting and sound. For an Advert production for example, a producer
may also need materials such correct costumes, items for correct mise-en-scene
and talent in order to fulfil the desired effect. Crew will also be needed such as
cameraman, soundman lighting engineer researchers editors and runners in order
to produce a professional looking advert.
Once all is complete facilities such as editing suits and postproduction equipment
will be needed and these cost a lot of money.
Sourcing
Crew
Crew can be sourced trough websites such as Creative England
http://www.creativeengland.co.uk/index.php/portfolio/locationproduction-support/
Editing suits such as Dynamic post Production
Facility
http://www.dynamicpost.co.uk/index.php/final-cut-pro-suites/ can
be hired for 350 per day. This will include the editor and sound
engineer.
Materials
Materials can be sourced from high street shops, retail outlets or
studio Props departments
Transport
Transport can be sourced via Transport for London
http://www.tfl.gov.uk, National Rail http://www.nationalrail.co.uk,
hertz car hire etc..
A days travel card in London will cost the producer 12 per
person.

Equipment
Transport
Talent
Crew
Materials
Facility hire

Importance
The equipment you can get may vary on the budget that you have,
they are fundamental to the film being successful, as they need to
make the film realistic, each producer needs to pay for the
equipment such as cameras, lighting & sound. Crew is also
compulsory, as they are needed to make the film, people such as
the cameraman, soundman and editors are needed to complete the
film and make it look professional. Costumes are needed to add the
effect to the film that it is in its right time period to suit the films
mise en scene and the right actors to fulfil the role, editing suits and
post production equipment will add to the cost as they are needed
to make the final touches to the film.

Time:

Deadlines
Availability of equipment
Availability of personnel (size of
team; roles)

Importance
Deadlines are important because they push us, we have to get
everything done so we can get it in on time but in the media
industry this maybe hard as you need to have time when people in
your crew such as actors and camera men are free to film the work,
what often happens is that we may not know how long something
will take so we decided to do it at a later date but deadlines are
there for a reason and they are to get it done in time and some of
the deadlines have consequences.

Sourcing

Facilities:

Production equipment
Post-production equipment
facility houses

Importance
We need production equipment is important because we need to
right software to make the film production professional, it would be
impossible to complete the production to the set deadline without
having the right production equipment, you need the highest
standard of equipment such as camera, microphone and sound so
the film is and looks professional, having the correct editing suit is
crucial to the production as you need the best software, a software
that I would use is Adobe Premier Pro as it is a professional editing
suite, facility houses are needed as you need the right equipment
around you to make the film or advert.

Materials:

Original materials,
Archive and library materials
Photo-library materials
Sound library materials,
Internet
Audio
Script (upload an example)
Interviews
Costumes

Importance
The importance of original materials is to have your own idea, of
course films stretch across genres and are similar to each other but
you need your own story and plot, archive and library materials are

important because you need to have your work in a easy folder so it

is easy to find and laid out correctly with appropriate file name, this
is also related to photo & sound materials you need to keep all your
work together so they do not get lost and have a appropriate
filename. The internet is there 24/7 we can research help with our
film and contact people, for audio you can use voice overs to help
tell the story, you can sometimes put someone talking over some
footage that is related to the audio to make it more interesting to
see the subject in action. A script is important because it helps the
actors with the story and what they are meant do with directions
and how they are supposed to act and react to situations in the film,
interviews are used in news and documentaries to tell the story
more, using the 180 degree angle helps get the reaction from the
person being interviewed and the person asking the questions,
news and documentaries are a different style to films and adverts
they are mainly telling facts to a more formal audience.
Costumes vary from genre of film and the cost of hiring them, they
will help the audience get used to the theme of the film and
understand its mise en scene.

Sourcing
Original material is filmed by the director but archive footage for
productions can be found at.

Locations:

Recces (Upload an example)

Limitations and risks:
Distance, access, cost, weather

Importance
The risk of filming on location is that it might take time to get there
and having all your crew free to film might be hard and for the to
get there maybe difficult, the cost will have to be included in the
budget and the cost may vary depending on where you film,
depending on weather you may have to film on a different day as it
might not suit the film, also the lighting on the specific day will have
to filmed at the same time if filming on a different day is needed.

Codes of
practice and
regulation:

Location permissions
Clearances
Copyright
Health and safety
Insurance

Importance
You will need permission to film on the location so you need to make
sure it is ok with the land owner before you film, using music that is
popular will have copyright acts with it so make sure you credit the
owner of the music or what ever had copyright acts on it as It can
be taken down. Making sure the crew are safe is a important aspect,

Sourcing

The below only requires you to discuss the importance

Ofcom is the communications regulator. They regulate the TV and radio sectors, fixed

operate. Ofcom are important because they make sure that everything is appropriate and
that nothing inappropriate will get broadcasted on TV or wherever the advertisement
maybe placed.

independent production sector to grow domestically and internationally the
association has a strong record of success in campaigning for producers rights.
The National Union of Journalists strive to improve the pay and conditions of our

Trade
associations:

Entertainment and Leisure

Software Publishers Association
(ELSPA)
British Interactive Media
Association (BIMA)

Importance

ELSPA's main goal was to establish a specific and collective identity for the
interactive leisure software industry across the European community, ELSPA
was responsible for introducing the video games ratings to the UK. The first
voluntary age rating system for any entertainment medium, this is good
because it means that no one under the age of the game they want to buy
can buy the game until they are of age.
BIMA manage legal subjects in the industry to make sure that everyone
working in the media industry can get what they want.
