Brief definition/description of the


radiology career:
Radiologists are medical doctors or doctors of
osteopathic medicine who specialize in diagnosing
and treating diseases and injuries.
Radiologists use a variety of imaging techniques such aso X-ray Radiography
o Ultrasound
o Computed Tomography (CT)
o Nuclear Medicine
o Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Human capital needed to


enter/succeed in this career:

o Communicating effectively- You need to be able to communicate with your


patients and also the physician so they can properly find a cure for the
patient.
o Knowing how to learn- You need to be able to learn how to be a radiologist.
You need to learn what youre looking at, how to work the computers, and
how to process an x-ray properly.
o Working well with others- You need to be able to work well with your coworkers and physician in order to find the problem within the patient.

Financial capital needed to


enter/succeed in this career:
o Radiology school can cost anywhere from $6,000-$20,000
o Books and supplies can cost up to $1,200 per year
o Uniforms can cost $250.00 to $400.00
o Each clinical you preform while in school
can cost anywhere from $50.00 to $200.00
o The AART exam cost $200.00 each time you
take it. (AART- Test you take to make you certified)

enter/succeed in this career:
oOther radiologist- Talking to other radiologist can help me
succeed because you can always ask their opinion on things
and/or ask for help.
oSupporters- Supporters like family and friends can help me
succeed by showing their support and always giving out
positive feedback.
oPeople in the health care career- People who work in the health
care career can help me succeed because we can both relate
to patients and the proper way in communicating with them
and ways to show support.

Career Advantages:
o Radiologists are some of the most well-paid physicians.
o Radiologists help patients both indirectly (by diagnosing medical problems)
and directly (by treating diseases and conditions). They have the ability to
make a difference in the lives of their patients.
o Radiologist can specialize in several areas, such as neuroradiology, nuclear
radiology, pediatric radiology and vascular radiology.
o The medical field is expanding and jobs are always needed, especially in
the radiology field.
o Radiologist can work in a variety of places like doctors offices, hospitals,
and patient first.

Career Disadvantages:
oIt can take a good amount of time to finish the schooling.
oThe hours you work can always change.
oRadiologist spend majority of the day on their feet.
oInfectious diseases are possible risk.
oAlthough radiation hazards are minimized through shielding
and other measures, there is still a slight risk of exposure for
those who work in radiology.
