This article talks about the different lifestyles for many variations of vegetarians
out there. The article recounts interviews conducted with people who refer to themselves
as vegetarians. The people directing these interviews ask these self-described vegetarians
about their eating patterns and motivations for their initial commitment for becoming a
vegetarian. In addition, the article discusses how these groups of vegetarians justify their
reasons for becoming non-meat eaters. Lastly, the article explains some of the positive
effects vegetarianism has in todays society.
The question I wanted to address when picking this article is the reason to
become a vegetarian. This article does a good job explaining this question through
conducted interviews that want to find out the motivation each vegetarian has for
becoming a non-meat eating individual. I can definitely use this article in my paper
because it uses direct quotes the participants had for their motivations for becoming a
vegetarian and their lifestyles after becoming one. With this information I can describe

the changes made to accommodate a switch in ones life choices to be a vegetarian and
some of the positive or negative effects in doing so.
I know this is a credible source because I used J. Murrey Atkins Library to find
this source. I searched using the Academic Search Complete database which re-directed
me to the Taylor & Francis Online.

This article conducts an experiment with the purpose of analyzing the different
motivations vegetarians have for becoming non-meat eaters. The article delves into the
common motivations for becoming a vegetarian: health, ethics, and the environment. The
data collected from the interviews helped define more clearly the main reasons people
had for becoming a vegetarian. With each participant interviewed, the article discusses
their results and finds a common trend between the vegetarians. The resulting trend
mostly dealt with issues concerning specific health problems like weight or medical
issues, and the ethical standpoint about animal cruelty.
I chose to use this article for my research because it uses the exact dialogue of the
participants to justify their conversion to being a vegetarian. The weak point of this
article may be that the pool of this experiment was a little small so there were not that
many variations in the participants answers. Also, a slight concern is that there are many
more reasons for being a vegetarian than the common conceptions about the
environment, health, or the ethics. It would have been better if they could have talked to
more people and approached the subject of culture affecting ones decision of being a

vegetarian. However, the data collected still seemed to show an evident trend for health
and ethical issues which are concepts I want to address in my paper. Plus, I really liked
some of the quotes used by the participants. Some of the vegetarians go into specifics
about their conversion whether it be because of a specific event like dissecting a chicken
or some family issues with being overweight and having diabetes.
This article is a credible source because I used the J. Murrey Atkins Library to
find this source. I used one of the top 10 databases, ScienceDirect, to find this article
which definitely shows its credibility as a research source.

As the name implies, the article describes the reasons to not eat meat. The article
notes the negative side effects eating meat can cause especially to the environment. The
article also talks about the inefficiencies in producing meat to eat. It takes a huge amount
of stable crops to feed the farmed animals which in turn only results in a small increase in
the amount of flesh the animals produces. Not only does this process cause food
shortages, it also harms the environment with the increased amount of CO2 and methane
produced from farmed animals.
Even though the article does seem to contain a lot of bias against eating meat that
is exactly why I chose use it. Just from reading the title we can tell that the author truly
dislikes meat-eaters and would do anything to convince someone like me who eats meat
all the time to know the negative effects producing meat causes. The reasons why I chose
to write about vegetarians is because I wanted to talk about why vegetarians are so

against eating meat, and this article uses some justified evidence about the negative
effects producing meat has on the environment. With this information, I can talk about
the environmental and ethical issues vegetarians would use in their decision to become a
vegetarian.

This article talks about the recent studies done in researching about the practices
and beliefs associated with vegetarianism. The questions the article explores is the
difference in motivation, attitudes, values and worldviews, and gender between
vegetarians and meat-eaters. The articles also talks about the factors that help vegetarians
maintain their new meatless diet. It also examines the reasons why vegetarians may be
tempted to abandon their practice of not eating meat. The article continues on to discuss
the barriers that impede ones decision for becoming a vegetarian.
I found this article to be extremely useful for what I want to discuss in my paper.
The article approaches many topics like age and gender when it comes to vegetarians. I
was also intrigued to find out some obstacles new vegetarians would run into that could
cause them to stray from their new lifestyle. I think this article does a really good job in
describing the different factors that affect someone who is or wants to become a
vegetarian. With these topics I want to write in my paper why becoming/being a

vegetarian may be difficult to do. I also would incorporate the information about the
difference in values vegetarians and meat eaters have into my final paper.
This article is a credible source because I used the J. Murrey Atkins Library to
find this source. Since the article came from one of the librarys databases, ScienceDirect,
it is safe to assume that the article is credible.

This article examines the way people following vegetarian diets manage their diet
and their interactions with other people about their food choices. Since some families
follow a dominant meat eating culture, it may be hard for an individual to say they are a
vegetarian in some circumstances. Although in some cases, people refrain from the term
vegetarian because they do not want to be a deviant from the norm. To avoid from being
labeled as a non-meat eater, vegetarians will sometimes eat meat in order to follow the
status quo as a way to avoid being socially deviant from a dominant meat eating society.
I can use this article in my paper to discuss some of the barriers that occur when
becoming/being a vegetarian. Although this article is a little old, I can incorporate this
time lapse by noting differences of todays vegetarians compared to how they were in the
past. Obviously things have changed for vegetarians in that they are more socially
accommodated now than they were before. In my paper, I will acknowledge that places
serve more food for vegetarians because it has become more socially accepted in todays
society than it was in the past.
