Adrianwasslowlywalkingupthestairstothegymthinkingaboutwhatkepthim
upthenightbefore,hownervoushewasforthefirstpracticeforthefirstclubhes
joined.Oneofhisfriendsdad,Juan,wasacoachandtoldhimtojointheclubthe
coachhad.Adrianhadonlyplayedsoccerfor3yearandwasnttoogood.Hedplayed
forhisschool3yearsfrom6thgradeto8thgrade.
AdriannoticedJuanandwaswalkingtowardstheendofthegymwhiletheteam
wasplayingforfunbeforethepracticewouldstart.Therewasnoteams,itwasjustone
persontryingtotakeeveryone.Henotedthatoneofthemostskillfulplayerswas
namedAlan.Hewasveryfastwithhowhedribbledtheballthroughthewholeteam.As
AdrianmetupwithJuanheshookhishandandsaidWhat'supbro?Juanrepliedthe
samethingback.ThenAdrianwhisperedaquestiontoJuanWhoisthatkidwiththe
yellowshirttakingeveryone?.Adrianwasamazedhowhehadsuchgreatcomposure

Itwasapproaching8p.m,whenthepracticewouldstart.Thecoachlatercamein
andbegansayingHellotoalltheparentssittingatoneendofthegymonthe

Asthepracticewentonthecoachlaterintroducedmetotheplayers.Heasked

communicatewithoneanother.
EverybodywasstandinginacirclesayingtheirnamesJuan,Ronaldo,
Alan,Luis,Fernando,Brandon,Mickey,Xavier,Adam,Angel,Chris,Oswaldo,
Billy,,FabianJason,Alex,Gabriel,Alex,Adriana,Alias,Elian,.Thencameme
andIutteredmynameuhAdrian.

Afterhavingfewpracticesinthegymandlatermovingtoahighschoolcalled
NorthGrandbecausetheclubwasgettingbiggerandbigger.Welaterenteredaindoor
leagueinMelrosePark.Thatseasonourteamwon3rdplacewithastrugglingbutit
wasagoodplacetoendknowingtheyonlykneweachotherforabout2months.For
thefirstseasontogethertheresultwasnotbadatall.Overthefewmonthsofpracticing
withtheteam,Ilatercaughton.
Forthesecondleaguetheteamjoinedtheywon2ndplace,sothetheorywas
thelongertheplayershavebeenplayingtogetherthebetterthechemistrygets:the
bettertheteamgets.
ThissummertheleagueplayedatChicagoAcademysoccerfield.Every
Saturdaymorningthewholeteammeetatthefieldreadytoperformwithalltheyhad.
Beforeeverygameourteamwouldobservetheotherteamtoseeiftheywere
good.AlltheplayerswouldsaystandinginacirclepassingtheballsayingHeisgood
buteveryoneelseisokay.Wegotthisgame,ortheydsayIknowthatkidIplayedwith
himinmyoldteam,Sojustwatchoutforhim.Adrianneverplayedwithanyotherclub
sohedidnotknowtotothinkaboutotherplayerorteams.HejustalwaysaskedJuan
aboutteamsbecausehehasbeenplayingsincehewas8.Withmostteamstheyhada
chancetowinandthat'swhattheydid.
Throughouttheseasontheyhadsomelossesandsomewins.Buttowardsthe
endoftheseasontheywentonaundefeatedstreaktogofrom6thplace,stillmaking
playoffsto1stplace.Thefirstplaceteamwasaheadby3pointssoitwashardthinking
thatweweweregoingtoendupin1stplacegoingintotheplayoffs.Buttheylostone
gameandwekeptgoingundefeatedandtookfirstplace.Adrianwouldalwaysmention
thisyearistheyearwhenwetakefirstplace.
Forthefirstplayoffgamewefacedateamthroughouttheseasonwecould
neverbeat,butweonlylostbyagoalortwo.Theydidntfeelsoconfident.Wellatleast
Adriandidnt.ThroughouttheweekatschoolAdrianwouldalwaystellJuanWeare
goingtolose.butJuanfeltconfidentandwouldtrytochangeAdrianmindbysaying
Wehaveallourplayers!.

SothenthatSaturdayofthegamecame,allliningupforthesemifinals.Thenthe
gamebegan.ItwasaprettyevengametillthefirstcornercamewhereAdriantookit
andsentitjustovertheopponent'sheadsandAlanheadersitintothebackofthenet
andtherewasthefirstgoalofthegame.AfterthatthegamewasincontrolofAdrians
team.AdriantoldAlanStayneartheendoftheboxandruninbackpost(behindthe
goalkeeper).andAdriangaveAlantwomoreassistandthegameended30.Adrian
screamedouttoJuanWearegoingtothefinals!.
Afterthegameeveryonewenthomehappywaitingfornextweekendtocomefor
thefinals.
ThentheSaturdaycame.Thefinalswhateveryonehasbeenwaitingfor.We
gatherintheentranceofthefieldtoseewhoisgoingtobeinthestartinglineupand
who'sgoingtosubforwho.Thenthegamestartedeveryoneexcitedfortheresult.The
parentsscreaminginthebackground.Thenwescoreone,thentwo,thenthethirdone
came.Atthispointwefeltlikewewerethechampions.Thentheopposingteamscored
twogoals.Nowthescorewas32socloseandintense.Thegamecooleddownforabit
thenwescoredagain,42wasthescore.Thentheyscoredagainmakingthegame
intenseagain.Thescorewas43,butbythenthetimehadrunoutandwefinallywon
1stplace.Afterthreeseasonsfinallythetrophywevebeenwantinghasbeenachieved.
Afterthegametheteamcelebratesandtakespictureswitheveryoneandthe
trophyofcourse.Thecoachthengivesthemedalstoalltheplayersonebyone.
Everyonesaidbyeandnowwaittillthenextseasontoachievethesame
success.
