[Child] has not been completing homework assignments for other classes at home. He has also taken to asking some of his group members for help on his homework during lab time. If this disruption to other students' learning experience is not acceptable, he will be sent to lunch detention.

My name is Ms. Brimhall, and I teach your students Introductory Physics class. Im grateful for the opportunity to teach your child. He is an intelligent, hard-working individual with a lot to contribute to the classroom community. However, I have sent this letter to notify you of some discipline issues with [Insert student name]. [Child] has not been completing homework assignments for other classes at home, but instead works on them during physics. This has been going on for a week and a half. I have talked to him privately about the matter three times, but little progress has been made thus farwhich is why I would like to bring it to your attention. This course is very hands-on, and participation is paramount in order for the students to succeed. Since [Child] has not been an active participant, his conceptual understanding has been hindered (as indicated by his grade on the last two quizzes), and his contributions to the group discussions and labs has declined sharply. He has also taken to asking some of his group members for help on his homework during lab time, which has prevented them from completing the most recent experiment during class. Im afraid that this disruption to other students learning experience is not acceptable. The classroom guidelines that the students established at the beginning of the year dictate that students will evaluate their group members at the end of each rotation. I am concerned that his group evaluation will be poor, as will his preparation for the upcoming test. Also, should his behavior not improve, I will be sending him to lunch detention. There he will be required to take his lunch to the detention room and work during that free period. [Child] is a very bright young man, and I know with encouragement and support from us both, he will be able to manage his time more efficiently. I am happy to meet with him at lunch, before school, and after school to retake those two quizzes and get him caught up on the notes. The tutoring center is available in the library after school for him to get help on the other homework that he needs to complete. [Child]s other teachers may be open to helping him manage their assignments. The biggest help may be support from home in ensuring that [Child] focuses and completes his assignments as best he can. I have every belief that he will thrive. Please feel free to contact me before or after school via email [Insert District email] or phone [Insert District phone number] so that we can further discuss how to help [Child]. Im eager to work with you to help him succeed. Sincerely, Ms. Alex L. Brimhall
