I Dare to Call Him Father
In this amazing story of a Muslim woman who comes to know Christ, we
learn the struggles of becoming a Christian in a Muslim world. For Bilquis
Sheikh this marked a point in her life she would never forget. I have learned
what it was like for Sheikh to stay in a place that she once called home. Even
through the trials in her life she remained Gods faithful servent.
In I Dare to Call Him Father, Bilquis Sheikh is searching for something that
is of worth. When she finally becomes a Christian she feels that sense of
worth and love. I really connected with this book because at times I dont
feel Gods presents but I Dare to Call Him Father reminds me that no matter
where I go or who Im with I can always find God and call out to him in my
times of need. Another moment that is significant to me is when Sheikh is
boycotted from her family and they cut her off. That scene makes me
grateful for having the family God gave me and made me understand that
not everyone has it as easy as I do. Even though I have hard times and
struggles, I am reminded that there are others in the world who are being
killed for their faith in Christ.
A bridge between Islam and Christianity is prayer. In the Islamic religion
they are to pray to Allah five times a day and as Christians we are called to
pray to our God, but without ceasing. Sometimes we only pray to God in our

time of need or when we want something from God. Another bridge

between the two religions is that they both serve only one god. Muslims only
pray to and worship Allah but Christians pray to God who is three in one; the
Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Its good to have only one god but there
is only one true God which is who Christians serve and follow. Now Jesus
Christ is the son of God but Muslims believe that Jesus was one of Allahs
many prophets.
As a Muslim, becoming a Christian or even switching religions is looked
down upon. When people become Christians they can choose to either keep
it a secret from their family or they can come out and share their new found
faith in Christ. If they choose to remain quiet about their faith, there is a
possibility that no one would know but there is always a chance that word
will spread. When word does get out, everyone knows that it spreads like fire.
Now if people know they are indeed a Christian those people might plot
against them to kill them. In I Dare to Call Him Father Sheikh house starts on
fire because of the plot against her. Even though that happened, on top of
her families boycott and dirty looks as she roamed the town, she remained
faithful to God and only listened to what He had to tell her.
This book has opened up my understanding of how hard it is to be a
Christian in a different country. By letting being led by the Holy Spirit, Bilquis
Sheikh completely changed. She also learned that her way was not always
the best way and God always had a plan.
